arggh_123 Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 Hello all,Looking for a hotel from 1/5/2011-1/7/2011 in NYC (zones being Chelsea, Downtown, ESB, MSG, MTE, MTW, TS, CPS) between 2.5*-3.5* for less than $125 a night. Any suggestions or bidding strategies? Would really appreciate any help.Thanks.
thereuare Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! Are you willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel OR is your goal the least expensive 2.5* or better? (my suggestion in NYC is to go for the higher rated hotel if possible as while there are some nice hotels at the 2.5* level, there are some which are not as nice, and with PRICELINE you can't choose which type you will get :) ). I think you may even be able to get a 4* hotel within your bidding limit, would you want to try for that first? If you're starting at the 3.5* or lower level, note that in the MTE zone there are some hotels which can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway, would this be acceptable? Also at the 3.5* level or lower, note that the Hudson Hotel is a possible outcome, which generally gets decent reviews except for the notoriously small rooms... would this be an acceptable outcome?Let us know the info above and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. arggh_123 Posted November 16, 2010 Author Report Posted November 16, 2010 Thanks for your help so far. Would really like to keep it below $125 a night.. but if you think a 4* is possible within that bidding limit, that'd be great to shoot for first. Neither the 15 min walk to the subway nor the Hudson Hotel's small rooms would be a serious issue. But if it's possible, perhaps I could avoid those zones initially and work up to them if necessary? And will, of course, use the links you provide in your posts to make the booking on Priceline. This service seems incredibly valuable. Regards.
derekh99 Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 I won on priceline the 4* Intercontinental Barclay for $116.The hotel is listing at $152 which is the condition it was listed in when I got it for Jan 8 at the above price. Good luck.
thereuare Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 Let's try the 4* bidding first as i think you have a good chance at succeeding at $125 or under. THere are not 4* hotels offered in the MSG zone so we have not included that in the strategy below. At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* ESB, MTE, MTW, TS and CPS....Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Downtown and Chelsea....Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* ESB, MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, Downtown, Chelsea....Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $118, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $123, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
