ZeroCool Posted November 14, 2010 Report Posted November 14, 2010 Hey Guys,Just wanted to let everyone know my progress and seek any ideas for bidding a 5* in Singaopre.I won a Priceline bid of $110 on Sunday, 11/28/2010 at the Conrad, but when I try to bid 11/29/2010 I have ran up to $170.00 per night for both Orchard Road and Marina with no success. Not sure what the problem is but they must be full. Rooms can be purchased for $230-300 in those areas.Any suggestions or explainations? Thanks again! Great website resource here.Zero
thereuare Posted November 14, 2010 Report Posted November 14, 2010 The percent of discount can often go down when hotel prices go up, even though there is more margin for the hotel when rates rise. As an example, if a hotel has low occupancy and sells rooms thru traditional booking channels for $200/nite, they may be willing ti discount that room by 50% since they need the business, and therefore sell them thru the opaque suppliers at a minimum of $100/nite. Now think of a scenario where the hotel only has one room left, so increases the price to $400/nite... although higher priced and higher margin, they're likely not going to discount that room too deeply (if at all) since it's their last one, and they'd prefer to hold onto it in an attempt to sell it at full price on their own. What hotel is available for $230/nite for 11/29?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ZeroCool Posted December 3, 2010 Author Report Posted December 3, 2010 I gave up after a failed bid at $170.00 and ended up booking direct with Marriott with a corporate rate at $230.00 for the Singapore Marriott. Hotel was OK, but not nearly as good as the Conrad. Rooms were a bit worn and since there is construction, it was quite noisy. Hotel is close to the shopping action and some nightlife however.
