AustinDude Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 Sorry that I am posting this a few days after my stay; my internet access was limited while on vacation. Our Boston trip was primarily at the Marriott in Cambridge. (Note: We reserved the Cambridge Marriott via the Marriott website...not Priceline.) My wife and I wanted maximum flexibility to leave Boston for side excursions, so we were extending our stay each morning -- i.e. I would notify the Marriott front desk that we would like to stay an extra day.Multiple days into our stay, on Saturday 11/6/10, the front desk informed me that the hotel was "overbooked" that evening due to several large events at Harvard and MIT. So where did I turn when I needed a quick (and cheap) room? Better Bidding and Priceline! My wife was anxious to do some sightseeing, so I didn't have time to make multiple bids. Here is what I did: *I checked Expedia to get the cheapest 4-star hotel rate in Cambridge for the evening; answer was $235. *I multiplied $235 by 60%...which is $141...and, due to my time crunch, I rounded up to $150.*Accessed the Priceline site; submitted my first bid at $150; and it was accepted. I was assigned the Royal Sonesta Hotel. [if you would like to read more about the hotel, I plan to post a review on Trip Advisor shortly.]Posting the above info -- even a few days after-the-fact -- was important to me because, after a quick scan of the posts, I did not see any mention of the Royal Sonesta Hotel. (Apologies if it's there and I missed it.)
