willhollis18 Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 Hi, I'm looking for a priceline strategy for a trip to NYC in January. Flights are booked but hotels are proving more difficult through my usual sites of Expedia etc. Stumbled accross this site and hoping it could be my solution!! Date of travel, 1st Jan - 5th Jan Locations, Midtown East; Midtown West; Times Square; Central Park South. Room for 2 people, looking at around $120 - $140 for a 4* hotel; is that feasible based on my area locations? Thanks in advance. Will
deepkid Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 Keep in mind that you're booking during New Year's in New York. It could be quite a challenge to find 4* rooms for that price level, but you could try?
AaronJB Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 New Year's Day is certainly not as bad as New Year's Eve, but I think you may get some people who stay for a couple of days after rather than going home the next day after being out late for NYE.I think $120-140 is possible for 1/1-5, although the success may be more towards the high end of that range for the whole period together. 1/2-5 MAY be slightly cheaper versus Have you tried any bids so far?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
willhollis18 Posted November 9, 2010 Author Report Posted November 9, 2010 Thanks for the replies. I started with a bid of $130, MTE, MTW - nothing found. Then included Time Square and went up to $145, again nothing found. Do you think splitting the dates would be more effective, for example stay lower end on New Years day, 3 star? Then 4 star for 2nd - 5th so we can hopefully secure a 'nicer' hotel for the majority of our stay at a reasonable rate? One point on this - are concierge desks quite understanding, i.e. when we check out of the lower end hotel on then 2nd and transfer to the higher end hotel would they store our bags for us in the morning before check-in opens so we can explore? Thanks again... Will
AaronJB Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 At most properties - especially properties in major cities - there should be little or no issue with having bags checked. You could certainly start low and work up higher to $145 again for 1/2-5, although personally, I'd keep trying up to $150 every few days for a couple of weeks and see if you could get something for the entire stay. If it gets close to month's end and bidding is still not getting anywhere, then look to see if splitting your stay will work.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
