Priceline Hotel: 4* NYC (CPS) Renaissance 57

I have used Priceline many times over the years and saved a ton of money! Just recently I have stayed at the Omni Berkshire, 4*, NY MTE for 3 times within the last few months, paid around $350 (full price $600 or more). I'm trying to book another trip for next week, I see that others have received $150 +/- for the same area, level and almost the same dates for the Grand Hyatt and W Hotel. I am up to $280., checking in the 15th and out the 18th. Why were they able to get such low rates, and I'm still being rejected? The full rates for Omni, Grand Hyatt and W Hotel are between $500 - $600.

I had to get this hotel room booked so I kept opening up new pages and added CPS and kept upping the price. I ended up with Marriott Renaissance Hotel 57 for $325. per night!! Full price is $379!! What's up with that?? I usually get much better discounts and everyone on your website got huge discounts, same star level and location for $150! I think some of their stays involved a Fri or Sat, could this be the reason? Still, I only got $54. discount (7%)????!!!! What happened here?????

Rates are date specific, and the difference of a few days (or even checking in just one day earlier/later or staying one day earlier/later) can greatly effect rates. You mention some hotel direct rates in the $500-$600 dollar range for your dates, indicating very high occupancy and tight demand. Although rates go up during high occupancy, and there is more margin in a higher priced room, it's not uncommon to see discounts actually go down during such conditions... hotels likely only have a few rooms available and therefore don't need to discount them too deeply, instead holding on to inventory in hopes of selling the rooms themselves at full price.
