Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

This would likely be the Intercontinental. Please let me know more about what you are looking for in terms of shopping/etc and I would be more than happy to provide suggestions.

We have an opportunity to arrive in Chicago early Thursday (7;30 at Midway) and will be leaving Friday evening(5:15 out of Midway). This will be a surprise to the wives and looking to fit as much in as we can in the limited time we have. They are shoppers and with Christmas time, I'm sure most of the time would be shopping. Again, never being in Chicago, I just hear about the mile and thought that would be the place to stay.

As for us guys, looking for a place where we might be able to go and have an adult beverage in between shopping stops!!

Thanks!!

I think the Mag Mile is certainly good for shopping, but I would save some for State St. in the Loop, which has things like the bargain-oriented Nordstrom Rack and Filene's Basement. Macy's - the historic former Marshall Fields flagship store - is also on State St.

There's tons of various bars and a lot of nightlife in River North, but I think the Green Door is an interesting choice (http://greendoorchicago.com/), as it's been around since the '20's and the building was originally built in the 1870's. The River North area also has tons of restaurants - everything from the famed Frontera Grill (Rick Bayless) to Portillo's hot Dogs to Quartino (Italian) and tons of other great options.

4* = likely Palmer House Hilton

3* = likely La Quinta.

I'd rather recommend the area North of the River. The Loop can get very quiet - especially some parts in the West/South Loop - at night, and I'd certainly rather recommend the 4.5* possible Intercontinental mentioned above over the 3* for $20 more.

If the possible Palmer was much cheaper than the possible Intercontinental that would be okay, but for about the same price, I'd much rather suggest the Intercontinental (the 4.5* Mag Mile)

Excellent! Thanks for all your input. I think we will do the Mag Mile. I'll let you know how it turns out. I won't be making the commitment for a couple days as we make sure we can pull this off with work and all!
