Traveling with my in-laws to the city for Thanksgiving. I only need accomadations for the night before THanksgiving, 11/24. Would like a decent hotel, doesn't have to be anything special, just not trashy. Need some tips on areas with close access to the subway that are going to be well priced. Do I have to worry about rooms not having two beds? Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

Using the discount services in NYC with the hopes of two beds is risky, as some hotels do not have two beds (such as some boutiques) and other hotels have a limited amount (and hence they often cost more) of two bed rooms. If you search for more than two on HOTWIRE, you are assured of bedding for the entire party, but that can be 1 + sofabed or other combination, as well.

What would be your desired budget per night, and which zones would you be interested in bidding for?

I don't really have a desired zone. We are going to the Macy's Parade, don't mind riding the subway to get there so price and having two beds (sofabed is fine) is the highest priority. Thanks for your help. Great site!

PRICELINE would be risky as all they guarantee is double occupancy, so if you need two separate beds/sleeping accommodations HOTWIRE would be a better option.

Searching HOTWIRE for 4 adults offers a 2.5* property with Breakfast, Business and Internet for $189. This property has not yet been identified, and while i typically advise staying away from the budget rated properties in NYC, this one is probably 'ok' given that it shows 100% recommended by HOTWIRE users and a 4.0/5.0 user reviews from Tripadvisor. Is this within your budget?

Another option is to stay in Jersey City for about the same price, but a higher rated hotel. HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel in Jersey City with Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Internet and Business icons. This matches previous reports for the Hyatt and the Westin so either of these would be my best guess for this one. Either of these properties offers easy access to Manhattan via the PATH train and should suit your needs should you want a higher rated property and/or don't mind staying outside of Manhattan.

Let us know your thoughts and/or how it goes or if we can be of further help.

If two beds (or at least 1 + sofabed) is a must, then I wouldn't recommend PRICELINE, as there's too large a chance in NYC that you would get 1 bed. Additionally, 4 in a room in major cities like NYC is more expensive due to extra person fees usually added in.

That said, when searching for four adults on HOTWIRE, the options are limited - several of the listings are grey, regular rate listings. The 3.5/4* regular rate/discount options are generally around $300-325 when searching for four.

Given that, I think for somewhat higher, famed boutique operator Ian Schrager's newer, high-end 4.5* boutique Gramercy Park for $344 (on sale from $380) on Expedia seems like a good deal in comparison to the other 3.5/4* properties at comparable rates. Additionally, this would be for a two doubles room.

Much further South, the Embassy Suites (free breakfast/evening reception) would be $239 + $60 extra person fees for 4 in the room = $299, but that would be 1 King + sofabed. on Expedia

The W Downtown, which is brand new, is $231 per night on Expedia for a room w/1 or two beds. There are no extra person charges listed on Expedia for this property when searching for four.

Overall, unfortunately there is not much in the way of reasonable offers when trying to search for four in Midtown, but the W Downtown - which I believe just opened a couple of months ago - for $231 on sale seems like a very reasonable deal. It is far South, but if taking the subway is not an issue, that would not be a bad option.

You could use PRICELINE, but again, if more than one bed is a big requirement, then there's a real risk with that service that you may only get 1 bed - especially in NYC.
