vespakitty Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 We are taking our Christmas vacation in New York City Dec. 19th-23rd. Hoping to use name your own price on Priceline to get the best deal. We would like to stay in CPS, TS, MTW or maybe MTEI also have the $50 bonus cash with Priceline. Does this bonus cash actually work?Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)
AaronJB Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)What would be your desired budget per night? These are still somewhat expensive dates, but they are not as bad as the first half of the month. The bonus cash does work.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

We would consider a 3 and a half* to 4* hotel. I wonder about the bonus cash though because on the price calendar on this site, showed The Roosevelt going the week before for $110. With that in mind, I bid $100 for the same area and then my $10 bonus cash was added to make $110. However, this price was rejected.Any other help or tips would be greatly appreciated.
AaronJB Posted November 6, 2010 Report Posted November 6, 2010 Rates and availability vary very significantly in cities like NYC from day-to-day. PRICELINE bidding, especially in major areas, is really something on a case-by-case basis - a hotel may be $150 one day and $300 the next.I really don't think you're far off, though. I'd try at $105 + $10 bonus = $115, then $110 + 10 = $120. If you are looking to try for 3.5* MTE, I would be rather surprised if it took more than a $110 + $10 bonus bid.Keep in mind when bidding 3.5*, you may get a different hotel than the Roosevelt, and while a very nice area, a couple of the possible 3.5*'s in MTE are a bit far E (The Hilton Manhattan East and Millennium UN).Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

I still can`t help but to feel a little bit cheated with the `bonus bucks`. It seems most people get the Roosevelt for $110 before bonus bucks....and yes i realize prices change day by day but this price seems pretty consistent. But at least we aren`t sleeping in the street on our trip :)
yellowdog Posted November 6, 2010 Report Posted November 6, 2010 vespakittyThank you for sharing your result with the board!Enjoy your stay.I still can`t help but to feel a little bit cheated with the `bonus bucks`. It seems most people get the Roosevelt for $110 before bonus bucksBonus money and the outcome of hotels has nothing to do with each other. The Roosevelt got the cheapest rates loaded in the PRICELINE system. This is why you got this hotel. And some hotels are more frequent than others. Please use the site's HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links to start future purchases.Yellowdog.
