gbs Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 I have been trying to book a room for 3 nights in Hong Kong May 1-4 for several weeks using priceline. so far no success. Have bid up to $105 for a 5*, then tried 4* up to $75. Any ideas to help me out? Thank you
Chris26WI Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 Maybe you should try to seperate the sunday-monday night from the other too, if you're willing to accept a hotel change in the worst case... What zones did you bid for?
thereuare Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 Welcome to BetterBidding!I agree with Chris, we'll need to know which zones you had bid for in order to provide additional help. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
gbs Posted March 23, 2005 Author Report Posted March 23, 2005 I bid first for West, then TST, added East for a free rebid. I know May 1st is the end of their Labor Day Weekend, but when I checked it prices, the 1st was actually less money than the 2nd and 3rd.
Chris26WI Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 Ok, for the 5stars you will probably only see the Sheraton HK and the JW Marriott come up in the prize class for below around 125US$... so did you check availabilty for the Sheraton / Marriott in the hotelsites? For the 4stars, I think there's no free rebid zone for HK. I personally would't go much higher now for the 4stars bid now, just try again later and later again.. you still have some time for May (maybe do a cancellable reservation for that period to be on the safe side). I am quite confident you will for sure find a 4 star for around 100 US$ (I got the Holiday Inn Golden Mile there last year in November for that price area - and it was indeed hard to get something below for TST).I don't think the Labour day will affect hotel capacities a lot in HK... for the business hotels sunday/monday nights should be easier to get than for monday-tuesday.. but it depends if you want to risk changing the hotel.
gbs Posted March 24, 2005 Author Report Posted March 24, 2005 Gosh, $125 for a 5* and $100 for a 4* seems really high compared to what I have seen. I thought i've seen 5* for around $105 and 4* for around $65. Of course those bids haven't worked for me yet, but do you think I should spit out my bid, and if so, how do you do that, I've never done it before.
Chris26WI Posted March 24, 2005 Report Posted March 24, 2005 No, I meant just try it again in the next weeks.. only finally you can still get higher... depending on what you can get through conventional travel sites.
gbs Posted March 30, 2005 Author Report Posted March 30, 2005 I've been trying a few more times. Bid up to $110 for 5* both on US and HK priceline sites. Still no luck. At what point should I give up? I have booked the Salisbury YMCA, but the prices there are no bargain like they used to be. I have seen people have successful bids at prices around what I am bidding, but I seem to be striking out.
gbs Posted April 2, 2005 Author Report Posted April 2, 2005 Got $75 per night for 4* Kowloon. I'm not too happy with myself. I know its tiny and I probably paid too much, but at least I have a place now....I should have hung in there for a 5*
Chris26WI Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 Which hotel did you get? Can you post it as new topic please?
gbs Posted April 2, 2005 Author Report Posted April 2, 2005 Got it after several tries for a 5*for up to $120
gbs Posted April 2, 2005 Author Report Posted April 2, 2005 Sorry, forgot the price! $75 4* Kowloon TST May 1-4
