Priceline Hotel: Help For 4* NYC Midtown East March 17-19 2 Nights

Looking for some help with a Priceline booking I'm trying to arrange for my son. Can anyone suggest what I should start bidding? Cheapest Priceline retail I've found for these dates is the W New York at $254 / night.

Also, they're not thrilled at the prospect of getting a room with 2 double beds. Does anyone have any experience in calling a 4 star hotel after winning a bid and trying to pin them down to a king sized bed?

Any help would be appreciated.

Good afternoon.

The issue with NYC properties is that rooms are often quite small (and sometimes infamously small - some NYC higher-end properties have rooms that are as small as 150 sq ft.) There is no problem with not getting two beds; NYC is one of the cities where getting two beds via PRICELINE is extremely unlikely and is often an issue for larger parties.

Unfortunately, on the other hand, given the small size of the rooms, guaranteeing a king may also be problematic; while a fair amount of hotels offer queens, there are some properties (such as some of the boutiques) that offer fulls. You can call and request bedding, but the hotel can say no.

Specific bedding in NYC hotels is unfortunately rather difficult to secure, especially when using the discount services.

What would be your desired max budget per night?

The kids are prepared to pay retail so they'd probably go to $180 or so on Priceline. Is that doable and if so where should we start?

Can you please elaborate on what you meant by "Fulls"? I know they'd be happy with one bed, king or queen, but I'm not sure what is meant by fulls.....thanks.

Mods, please feel free to move this thread into the Priceline bidding help forum....thanks.

full-sized bed. Some of the boutique properties in the city do have those.

One retail suggestion would be the St Giles the Court, which is $179. This is formerly a W Hotel, but was sold last year - it remains a trendy boutique property. It is a bit further South though, more near the Empire State Building than MTE. Given how much in advance this is and that March is generally not the high period for NYC prices, this would be a nice option for book now to have a back-up in case and then try for a PRICELINE bid closer to your stay. This would also ensure a king.

In terms of bidding for a 4* in MTE only, I'd start at $115 and work higher by $5's up to $150. I don't think I'd bid higher than $150 at this point in time.
