chouse Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 I just realized I posted this in the wrong section, I'm sorry for the repost. I've used Priceline a few times for hotels on the West Coast but never in NYC. I'm heading to NYC the on the morning of November 13 for a wedding in Central Park and leave Sunday the 14th at 6pm.I'm happy staying in a 3 star hotel and would like to find somewhere for less than $125. Ideally, I want this hotel to be in Manhattan but feel free to laugh at me if this isn't possible. Upper East, Upper West, Central Park South, Midtown East and Midtown West are near the wedding and reception which would be perfect location-wise. Although, beggars can't be choosers and I'd be happy in SOHO, ESB, or Chelsea. I'm fine staying in NJ too if it's a lot cheaper and reasonable with transportation. I'm willing to go lower in the stars, however, I fear the neighborhood would get worse if I lower them. Does this sound accurate?I've tried reading some posts on the site to get a feel of things. Any tips on strategy and price?
AaronJB Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)The neighborhood would not necessarily get worse at lower star ratings, but it's primarily a matter of the hotel itself; it's generally not recommended to bid under 2.5*, as you may run into quite varying quality and possibly issues like shared bath. There are some decent possibilities at the 2.5* level in some areas, but again, it starts to become a bit more varying at this point and especially below 2.5*, which is why there have been very few reports of any 2* wins to the board.Based upon the rates I'm seeing for these dates, unfortunately I think a 3* for $125 or under is going to be unlikely, but it's certainly worth trying.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
