lamw0001 Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 Hi everyone,I just registered on this forum since I am researching the whole Priceline thingy. I am bringing my family back to Hong Kong in Dec. and would like to find a decent hotel stay in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon but ran into a bit of the confusion.First, if I used PL to check for available hotels for the dates that we will be there. Of course it will pull up a bunch but Tsim Sha Tsui is mispelled to Tain Sha Tsui under the hotel area. The hotel area from there also has more area than where you choose from under Name You Own Price.Second, in Name You Own Price, how can you target the the hotels where has no ratings? The hotels that I am after are, such as, The Minden and Butterfly on the Prat Boutique Hotel. They don't have any star rating. They are also under the area that is mispelled. How do I get them?Sorry if my post sounds a bit confused because I am.... :) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Romelle Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 You've asked several questions, and I can only answer a couple of them. But I'm sure some people with more specific knowledge will also step in here and help you. There is not a match-up between the geographic names of areas on the retail side of Priceline, and those maps on the bidding side. There are lots of examples in many different cities. When one is bidding, the shaded area in the bidding map rules. No matter how things are spelled. Finding a hotel actually outside the boundaries of that shaded area is one of the VERY few ways to get out of a bid. On the other hand, if a hotel is within the shaded area, no matter what things are called the bid cannot be cancelled for location reasons. You've probably already discovered it, but on the bidding maps one can drill down to more detail using the "+" sign. Smaller street names show up, and metro stops, and other detail.I'd guess one usually won't get hotels that don't have ratings on the retail side - usually. If a hotel met the star rating criteria of the bidding side, there is nothing preventing it from being offered for bidding (no matter whether or not it has a star rating on the retail side). There also is not an exact correlation between offerings on the retail side and the bidding side. Hotels can be offered on the retail side that never show up via bidding, and vice versa. Romelle
lamw0001 Posted October 27, 2010 Author Report Posted October 27, 2010 Romelle,Nice meeting you and thanks for the information. Is there a way to find out what hotels are included in certain hotel area? Thanks,Maverick
Romelle Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 Maverick,When you look in the very first post in the Other Countries-Priceline area, there is a list of hotels people have received via bidding and reported here. You will see quite a few Hong Kong hotels there. Or you can just use the Quick Search box up above, entering "Hong Kong" or "Kowloon" to also see bidding results and other information. It seems there has been quite a bit of Hong Kong Priceline bidding results reported lately. Of course one could still get an entirely different hotel than those on the list. That has happened to me a couple times. If you want to get a specific hotel or make sure a hotel has certain amenities, Hotwire could work better for you. The experts here are pretty good at guessing what a Hotwire offering might be, based on the amenities offered. No guarantees, but well educated guesses. If you'd like further bidding advice, do post back. If you supply your dates, desired star level and areas, and budget, one of the mods can even give you a specific bidding plan. And very nice meeting you too. Hope we hear from you again.Romelle
