Jeffreysm Posted March 26, 2005 Report Posted March 26, 2005 I am going to stay in NYC on April 24, 2005 for 1 night (2 adults). The available rate from Hotwire for a 3 star one in the Midtown east area is USD101 and the rate for a 3* one in downtown Soho is 109. I have never used Hotwire before. Could anyone let me know if this is a good deal? And also if it is possible to get a better price for the Haytt in New Jersey city? Both the midtown east hotel and downtown soho hotel got the following amentities,Fitness CenterLaundry Facilities (self-service)
thereuare Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 Not sure of the midtown east hotel, but the Downtown/Soho hotel is likely the Club Quarters... the $100 rate looks pretty good given Expedia shows a rate of $199/nite for your date. However, i would question the purpose of your trip, as the MTE zone and Downtown zone are very different so i'm not sure how you went about choosing each of those as areas to consider.A better rate at the Jersey City Hyatt does not appear to be currently available. We're quite familiar with NYC so if we can help you clarify the best zones for you feel free to ask.Let us know how we can help further. Jeffreysm Posted March 29, 2005 Author Report Posted March 29, 2005 I am going to NYC as a first time tourist. Now I am thinking of staying in Hyatt in Jersey city cause you guys said a lot of great things about it. Do you think it is possible for a better rate to be available between now and April 15? I plan to bid after that date when the weather forcast is available. If the rate for the Hyatt stays this high, I will go for a hotel in downtown or midtown area. Could you please let me know which zone is better for a first time traveller to New York? My budget for the hotel (excludes parking) is no more than USD120/night.Thanks for your help and I will definitely use the link in your post to book the hotel if I chooses Hotwire.
thereuare Posted March 29, 2005 Report Posted March 29, 2005 Bump this thread after April 15th when you are ready to bid/purchase and we'll look at current rates at that time.Downtown is not a touristy area but depending upon availabilty you may have to consider it with the budget you mention. In the meantime, give this thread a read: NYC ZONE DESCRIPTIONS. Jeffreysm Posted March 31, 2005 Author Report Posted March 31, 2005 Got $10 off using code 'GIFTCARD06' (looks like only works for new user). Hopefully will also get $30 rebate through ENTERTAINMENT. Price is much higher than those posted but still acceptable. They will charge $15 for self-parking and we will get there early in the morning, which means we got to pay the parking fee for two days. So I am thinking of parking the car somewhere else nearby. Any one got any advice?
Jeffreysm Posted March 31, 2005 Author Report Posted March 31, 2005 We changed our trip schedule and ended up getting one using Hotwire for Jersey City Hyatt Regency, April 4 at $91. As discribed in another thread, I opened the board's HOTWIRE link, then used the link provided by the ENTERTAINMENT to book the hotel. Hopefully will get the rebate.I already posted the bid information under New Jersay. Thanks for you help again. And If you could post some tip regarding parking in that area, it will be really appreciated.
Jeffreysm Posted March 31, 2005 Author Report Posted March 31, 2005 Forgot to mention some details. That is,1 room1 night2 adultsprice: $91tax and fees: $17.95hotel subtotal: $109.95additional savings: $10total price: $98.95You can check the reservation information online by giving the confirmation number. Looks like this one is refundable. If it applies to all Hotwire reservation, it will be really nice.
thereuare Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 Glad you got the stay settled... from which direction will you be traveling from?HOTWIRE rates are non-refundable. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Jeffreysm Posted April 1, 2005 Author Report Posted April 1, 2005 I am a little dispointed to know Hotwire is not refundable. But still it's good deal. I will be travelling from toronto and get to Jersey city from Washington DC.
thereuare Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 If it was non-refundable people would just keep buying hotels and then cancelling if they didn't like the property. The current system is a win-win for hotels and consumers, if users could cancel after seeing the property, it would not be a good business model for the hotels... users would simply cancel if they didn't get the hotel they wanted.
