Labelwhore Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 Room Subtotal: $93.00 (USD) Taxes and Fees: $20.94 (USD) Total Room Cost: $113.94 (USD) Bid on 3* downtown only for $88 which was rejected. I specifically bid $88 because I won the Helix at $88 earlier this week so figured if they continuously load the same rates I'd have a better shot at getting Helix as opposed to other hotels plus their online rate was $229- significantly lower than the other hotels in the area so figured I'd score. Added Mount Vernon as a free rebid area and bid $93 which was accepted (both bids same day of stay). I would have tried a lower bid and added Dupont Circle but didn't want to risk getting stuck with the Marriott. Helix is nice and they've never denied me frequent guest benefits bc of Priceline.
Labelwhore Posted October 19, 2010 Author Report Posted October 19, 2010 I made a mistake- I actually won the Helix earlier this week for $66 but for some reason I thought it was $88 which I why I bid $88. Anyway happy to have gotten Helix.
thereuare Posted October 20, 2010 Report Posted October 20, 2010 At least you know from your rejection at $88 that $66 certainly wouldn't have been enough either. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay. Labelwhore Posted October 20, 2010 Author Report Posted October 20, 2010 Spoke to the manager at Helix. He says the rates Priceline pays them are terrible and they will match any rate if I call them directly. I explained there's no way of knowing the rate unless I happen to win the Helix. He said to just call them directly anyway and they'll see what they can come up with since they'd rather get more revenue to keep even if it's a low rate. Good to know.
