First time using the Priceline bidding. My wife and I are heading to NY for a vacation on Dec. 5-9. Looking to stay in the Times Square, Midtown East-West, Soho area.

I just tried a few scenarios on priceline to get a 2.5-3 star hotel, for 180 a night and they rejected my bid. Any help guidance would be much appreciated as I think I know what I am doing on there, but not really :)

Budget per night is 150-175.

For 3 star-an above hotels in the Times Square, CPS, Midtown East, Midtown West, Soho, Empire State Building, Madison Square.

For 2 1/2 Star hotels, only in the Midtown East, Midtown West, and Times Square.

Thanks!

Note that the Soho zone is part of the larger Downtown zone... are you willing to stay anywhere within this zone OR is only the Soho part of the zone acceptable?

Do you recall which zone(s) and star rating(s) you had bid? Going forward, did you want to bid up to your limit for a 3* before trying for a 2.5*?

Let us know the above adn we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

only 3 star zone for soho.

yeah i wanted to bid to my limit with 3 star before i resort to 2.5 star, because i only want to stay in a few 2.5 star in the Times Square, Midtown East-West area.

honestly for 3 star and above, i bidded almost every zone imaginable today, Times Square, Midtown East-West, CPS, hells kitchen, Empire State Building Area, Madison Square Garden.

thanks guys

I understand you only want to include this zone at your 3* bidding (and not your 2.5* bidding) but i'm trying to clarify...

The Soho zone is part of the larger "Downtown-Soho-Financial" zone which encompasses much more then just Soho... it includes Wall St, Battery Park, Financial District, Chinatown, etc, etc. Are you comfortable receiving a hotel anywhere within the boundaries of this zone, or are you only interested in the Soho part of this zone?

Sorry I apologize, all in all no, I wasnt aware obviously that Soho included those other boundaries. We can take Soho off the list.

i hope my posts make sense, let me know if u have any questions etc.

thanks looking forward to your reply

is this even worth it?
Depends upon what you're asking... Is it worth continuing to bid or is it worth coming to NYC for these dates??

This is a very expensive time period in NYC and these are expensive dates within that time period, only compounding the issue. If you're committed to visiting NYC during these dates i would say it is worthwhile to continue to bid as i'm guessing you're not seeing anything decent in this price range for these dates thru traditional booking sources. If you're willing to go just a bit higher HOTWIRE has some good options:

3* MTC hotel for $239 (guessing the Holiday Inn Midtown)

3* Chelsea-MSG zone for $239 (i'm guessing the well reviewed Wingate Inn Manhattan)

2.5* Chelsea-MSG zone for $229 (90% recommended rating from HOTWIRE customers)

If any of the above are of interest let us know and we'll confirm amenties associated with each with you.

On the otherhand if you can postpone your trip to January/February you'll see MUCH cheaper prices... but it's also quite a bit colder.

At $5 more than your previously rejected bid at the 2.5* level you're not leaving yourself much margin to succeed, but the 'tipping point' has to be somewhere, so to give it a try..

Select 2.5* MTE and MTW...

Yup, my bad... we dont' see too much 2.5* bidding so was going from memory. Here is a revised strategy, although again, you were just rejected at $210 and under for the same star rating so you're hoping that some hotel in one of these zones has lowered their rate in the last 24 or so hours:

Select 2.5* MTE and MTW...

Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 2.5* TS and MSG...

Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 2.5* TS and MTW...

Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $175, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 2.5* MTE and MSG...

Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $175, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 2.5* MSG and MTW...

Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $185, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 2.5* TS and MTE...

Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $185, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 2.5* MTE and MTW and TS...

Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $195, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 2.5* MTE and MTW and MSG...

Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $195, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 2.5* TS and MSG and MTE...

Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $205, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 2.5* TS and MSG and MTW...

Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $205, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 2.5* TS and MSG and MTE and MTW...

Bid $210, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $215

Congrats on your success. :)

I haven't stayed here, but I walked by this property and it is well-located; this is also a fine deal for the pricey peak of the holiday season.

Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.

Enjoy your stay.
