If you look at the retail (non-bidding) side of PRICELINE, that can give you an indication of what might be available via bidding. However, there can be hotels offered via bidding that are not offered via retail, and vice versa.

At the 4* level, the retail side has Hotel de la Cite Concorde at $128 and Boscolo Grand at $142 (your dates).

Thanks. I am starting with some low bids as I have a long time, but am not hearing anything back or anything about changing my bid or lowering the stars to bid again. do hotels release rooms to PRICELINE when it gets within a certain amount of time? and if so any suggestions on when i should start bidding?

For another comparison, I found the 4* Mercure Lyon Centre Grand Hotel Chateau Perrache for $109 on Hotels Combined for your dates.

Thanks. I saw it on booking for 79 euro. Just did 85 and they said I could bid again at 105.

You've got the right idea in just ignoring that counter-offer. The PRICELINE technique of making it higher when you raise you bid seems designed to scare people into thinking the prices are raising. I've seen it regularly.

Somewhere between your bid and the counter is a win. Keep sneaking up on it. You've got plenty of time.
