felstut Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 All - I am looking to stay in Lyon for 14 - 17 Jan 2011, but cannot find any past bids. Any suggestions?
Romelle Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 If you look at the retail (non-bidding) side of PRICELINE, that can give you an indication of what might be available via bidding. However, there can be hotels offered via bidding that are not offered via retail, and vice versa. At the 4* level, the retail side has Hotel de la Cite Concorde at $128 and Boscolo Grand at $142 (your dates).Romelle
felstut Posted October 17, 2010 Author Report Posted October 17, 2010 Thanks. I am starting with some low bids as I have a long time, but am not hearing anything back or anything about changing my bid or lowering the stars to bid again. do hotels release rooms to PRICELINE when it gets within a certain amount of time? and if so any suggestions on when i should start bidding?

felstut Posted October 20, 2010 Author Report Posted October 20, 2010 Used PRICELINE links and did 4* for 80 and it countered with 100. Will try 85 tomorrow

Yagermeister Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 For another comparison, I found the 4* Mercure Lyon Centre Grand Hotel Chateau Perrache for $109 on Hotels Combined for your dates.
felstut Posted October 22, 2010 Author Report Posted October 22, 2010 For another comparison, I found the 4* Mercure Lyon Centre Grand Hotel Chateau Perrache for $109 on Hotels Combined for your dates.Thanks. I saw it on booking for 79 euro. Just did 85 and they said I could bid again at 105.
Romelle Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 You've got the right idea in just ignoring that counter-offer. The PRICELINE technique of making it higher when you raise you bid seems designed to scare people into thinking the prices are raising. I've seen it regularly.Somewhere between your bid and the counter is a win. Keep sneaking up on it. You've got plenty of time.Romelle
felstut Posted January 1, 2011 Author Report Posted January 1, 2011 Just to update. We decided to book with booking.com instead. Wanted something close to the center of the city, and the range for PRICELINE and HOTWIRE was too big.
thereuare Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 Thank you for closing this thread with your decision. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
