I'm looking for a 3.5-4* for Oct 22-24th downtown. Priceline declined my first bid of 43. Please offer a bidding strategy or any tips, thanks!

I'd like to say no more for $50/night and would prefer a 4*, but if my budget sends me to 3.5*, I'm fine with that. So price is more important than rating. The $43 was rejected at the 4* level. I started at $40, then increased to $43.
