Hello Better Bidding

I am just starting bidding for my 12/4 x 4 nights trip. Out of the gates I got shot down bidding two rooms up to $150 each and one room up to 201. I avoided Empire State Building, UWS, Financial, Chelsea because I thought the hotel lists or the location weren't ideal. I also haven't bid on Hell's Kitchen, because I don't see a hotel list. I could easily be swayed to include these areas. We are just going to eat, shop, site see including museums. Advice welcome.

Hotwire has 385 I believe, which isn't much below retail.

I would like to spend $250/night on priceline max but would be happiest around $200. Is this unrealistic for my dates?

I would prefer two beds or a king (traveling with my mom and don't want to snuggle in a double). Are people commonly stuck in a double bed in NY on priceline?

Thanks in advance for your tips, and I will use the PRICELINE link here so you get credit :)

These are generally around the peak of the holiday shopping/festivity season, and prices are quite high for NYC. No hotels have been reported to the board yet in Hell's Kitchen - this is a smaller zone and there are a very, very few hotels within this area - two that come to mind are the new Ink48 and the more basic Skyline, but it has not yet been confirmed whether or not these or others are participating.

NYC has a limited amount of rooms with two beds; many rooms in the city are quite small - NYC is probably the riskiest major city on PRICELINE when it comes to using the service for two beds; it's unlikely in general and very unlikely in this period.

The Downtown-Soho-Financial area is not centrally located in good weather, but in the Winter, I wouldn't want to have to travel that far. ESB (in my opinion) would be fine, but I wouldn't bid for UWS/UES or Downtown/Soho/Financial and would concentrate on trying to get the best deal from the Midtown zones.

What would be your desired max budget per night?
