kerlik Posted October 13, 2010 Report Posted October 13, 2010 Traveling to New York for the first time next week and hoping to stay in Jersey City (for budgetary reasons)I have tried bidding but have not had any success until now...So I need some advice. What do you think the budget is for a 3* or a 4*? Should I split my bid? Thank you in advance :)

kerlik Posted October 14, 2010 Author Report Posted October 14, 2010 Thank you for your reply:)I have gone up to 135 for a 4* and 125 for a 3*. If I could get the first two nights for a really good price in Jersey City I would consider Manhattan for the remaining two nights. I am arriving at Newark airport and leaving from JFK.My maximum would probably be about 150.I would also consider other areas if they have good connection to Manhattan. I will use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links for future bidding.
thereuare Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 No 3.5* bidding as of yet? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
thereuare Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 If you're willing to SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID, for 10/23-10/25 HOTWIRE has a 3* hotel in the Chelsea-MSG zone with Breakfast, Fitness, Business, Internet for $159/nite (i'm guessing the Holiday Inn Express MSG). You could go for this OR you may be able to get a higher rated hotel thru PRICELINE for a similar amount or a little less. Once that is complete...For 10/25-10/27 HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel in the MTE zone for $193/nite (i'm guessing the W New York) which, if you're flexible, you can take this offer or try bidding for a hotel thru PRICELINE.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Your thoughts? kerlik Posted October 15, 2010 Author Report Posted October 15, 2010 I tried to get a 3* on Priceline for 23-25 and went up to 150 with no luck. I think I should take the Hotwire offer but I am not sure yet.193 is a bit much. What about staying in Long Island City?
thereuare Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 I think I should take the Hotwire offer but I am not sure yet.I think you should too... why wouldn't you take it?193 is a bit much. You could try bidding for the last two nites 'knowing' that the 3* offering on HOTWIRE is available for the first 2 nites. Assuming we're correct that the HOTWIRE offer is the Holiday Inn Express, it's 2.5* rated on PRICELINE, but it gets good reviews which is why i'd still go with this vs. bidding for an 'unknown' 2.5* on PRICELINE.What about staying in Long Island City?I wouldn't... i'm not a fan of this area (feels 'dirty', graffiti on buildings, etc), it's less convenient and a different experience vs. staying in Manhattan, and i don't think the savings would justify the 'lesser' location. However, it all may be a moot point now as the 4* MTE hotel is no longer available for 10/25-10/27.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. kerlik Posted October 15, 2010 Author Report Posted October 15, 2010 I booked the 3* on Hotwire and as you said it was the Holiday Inn, so now I need something for the last 2 nights.Thank for your help so far:)
