galen345 Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 *Sorry op, this was for priceline section. please move*Thanks to this forum I've been able to put together some reasonable price expectations for what a hotel will go in the 2nd weekend of December. But I wonder if the prices this year are a bit higher? I'm looking for at least a 3* around midtown (MTE, MTW, TS, CPS). I could pay up to $250. Any help or insight is appreciated. Here is some bidding I've already done:4*===========MTE$120MTE, Time Square$140MTE, Time Square, Madison$155MTW$150MTW, CPS$1753.5*===========MTE$130MTE, Time Square$150MTE, Time Square$1753*===========MTE, Time Square$170
thereuare Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding!NYC hotel prices have rebounded/firmed since last year and we're seeing mostly higher prices across the board vs. last year.I'm looking for at least a 3* around midtown (MTE, MTW, TS, CPS).Your bidding is not consistent with what you say you want for this stay... is there a reason you haven't yet bid the MTW or CPS zones at the 3.5* or 3* levels? How high are you willing to bid for a 4* before lowering your star rating to a 3.5*? How high will you bid for a 3.5* before bidding for a 3*?At the 3.5* and lower levels is the MSG zone an option? At the 3* level is Chelsea an option? How about ESB at all star levels? Also, note that at the 3.5* level in the CPS zone is the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small rooms and at the 3.5* level in the MTE zone there are some hotels that are a 15 minute walk to the subway... are both of these scenarios acceptable?Let us know the above and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. galen345 Posted October 12, 2010 Author Report Posted October 12, 2010 Your bidding is not consistent with what you say you want for this stay... is there a reason you haven't yet bid the MTW or CPS zones at the 3.5* or 3* levels? How high are you willing to bid for a 4* before lowering your star rating to a 3.5*? How high will you bid for a 3.5* before bidding for a 3*?A few of the hotels in MTW or CPS at 3.5*/3* didn't look that great so I tried to avoid bidding there at first. At this point I'm more interested in keeping it around $200. From last year the 2nd weekend of December already had a nice price drop with some 4* under 150. But this year a 4* or 3.5* at 150-200 would be nice. Besides TS/MTE I don't know If I want to bid on any more 3*, I already bid up to $170. I can start bidding on nicer hotels in different sections. At the 3.5* and lower levels is the MSG zone an option? At the 3* level is Chelsea an option? How about ESB at all star levels?I think it's becoming an option now. A place in MSG or Chelsea would work as long as its convenient, thats why I was just trying to stick around midtown. Also, note that at the 3.5* level in the CPS zone is the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small rooms and at the 3.5* level in the MTE zone there are some hotels that are a 15 minute walk to the subway... are both of these scenarios acceptable? Thanks for the info about CPS. I've actually stayed in the Roosevelt in MTE before and it was a great location. It seems it's a popular hotel to get on priceline so I was trying to pick that up again.
thereuare Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 The NYC hotel market is a bit stronger then it was last year at this time, and rates are generally higher across the board, and rate drops are taking place later in the season. So taking into consideration your previously failed bids... what is it that you want to try for next? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. galen345 Posted October 14, 2010 Author Report Posted October 14, 2010 Did more bidding on 4* with no luck. Dropped it down to 3* still no luck. Not looking great. going to try with Chelsea/ESB and then drop star rating again.4*===========MTE180MTE, MTW190MTE, MTW, Times200MTE, MTW, Times, CPS2103*===========MSG,$170MSG, Time Square, MTW$180MSG, Time Square, MTW, MTE$185MSG, Time Square$190MSG, Time Square, MTW$200MSG, Time Square, MTW, MTE$210
