kizzle Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 Hello, We will be visiting NYC this December Wed Dec 8 - Fri Dec 10 and would like to stay in either TS, MTE, MTW, Central Park or SOHO. I noticed that the prices are fairly high during this time and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what to target for a 4 star or possibly even a 3.5 star in these regions. Thanks in advance for any help.
AaronJB Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)This is actually right near the end of the "peak" period (end of November/first half of December) for holiday festivities and shopping. I think you're unfortunately probably looking at the mid-to-high $200's ($250-275+ for a Midtown 4* via PRICELINE. The days afterwards (for example, 12/10-12) would likely be moderately better. What would be your desired budget per night?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
kizzle Posted October 11, 2010 Author Report Posted October 11, 2010 Thanks AaronJB,I had a feeling it was going to be pricier at this time of the year. Our budget would allow for mid to high $200's, which actually seems like a good deal versus looking at Expedia for those dates. Do you have any ideas what 4* would likely come back at this time of the year in Central Park or Upper West Side?
thereuare Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 There is no way to target or have a guess as to which property you will received when bidding on PRICELINE... you have to be able to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you select. If you're trying to have some insight as to what you may receive then HOTWIRE may be a better option... but the trade-off is that HOTWIRE usually costs a little more than PRICELINE.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly, but i'll also ask how familiar you are with NYC as your zone selection seem to be a bit scattered. In your first post you mention most of the midtown zones as well as Downtown, but in your last post you only focus on one midtown zone and UWS (which was not previously considered)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. kizzle Posted October 12, 2010 Author Report Posted October 12, 2010 Thanks for the Hotwire tip. Tried it out and some of the prices seem OK versus PL. I applied a bidding strategy to go for a 4* in TS, MTE, MTW, SOHO, and CPS and did multiple re-bids for this time frame all the way up to $300 with no success.I am thinking I might need to go for a 3.5 or 3* property in the high $200's.Sorry bout the confusion on the UWE remark, we did look at the Empire hotel there which seemed nice and I included the are in the post above as I felt it was close enough to CPS. I know that December is still a way out, how do the hotels treat the bids from the current standpoint vs closer in. Is there a better chance of getting an aggressive bid in just a few days before arrival? I'm kind of worried about leaving it until the last minute...
