Newbie user looking for assistance/strategy for 3 night New York weekend of Nov 12-15.

Would like a 4 star hotel in either of Mid-town East, Mid-town West, Times Square or Central Park South.

Want to spend no more than $160 per night.

What would be the ideal bidding strategy?

Appreciate any and all comments!

A 4* win at $160 or under for these dates may be a bit tough, but to give it a try (you may also want to consider ESB if you think this might be acceptable as well)...

At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* MTE, MTW, TS, (and ESB if you so desire)...

Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $135, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

That’s great!

A couple of questions before I start bidding:

1. I’m concerned that there may be some 4 star hotels in the regions I don’t want. I looked and found a better bidding thread dating back to 2003 that lists the hotels by region. Is there a more updated list of regions on better bidding as I’m concerned that PRICELINE may have added or deleted some 4 star hotels in the areas I’m interested in?

2. What is difference between a “re-bid zone” and the PRICELINE “Zone” as it relates to the current definitions for Midtown East, Midtown West, Times Square and Central Park South?

3. Just to confirm as I’m finding it very confusing – are the 5 “re-bid zones” these: Brooklyn, LaGuardia Airport, Kennedy Airport, Long Island City, Bronx?

I'd like to confirm the following re-bid zones with the board:

Chelsea, Madison Square Garden, Long Island City, LaGuardia Airport, JFK

If these are not the correct zones, kindly advise which ones are the five re-bid zones.

Thanks again

You're using the retail version of PRICELINE to determine your re-bid zones which you can't do as this side of their website has different zone names, boundaries, and hotels then the 'bidding' side of their site.

Try this... enter 'new york city' and your dates into the search box on the top right corner of the board and click GO. List the zones available for bidding in a reply to this thread.

Ok, I think I have it now.

Please confirm if the five re-bid zones are as follows: Upper East Side, Madison Square Garden, Long Island City, Coney Island, Brooklyn.

The other zones all included 4 star hotels so they should NOT be used as re-bid zones?

Do I have it all correct?

I used the recommended strategy just now and obtained the W on Lexington for a very reasonable $150/night plus taxes and fees.

Price is good and I understand the rooms are very small (though typical for New York). Is there anything else I should be aware of regarding the W Hotel? Should I ask the front desk for a certain room on a certain floor or are there any rooms to stay away from?

Suggestions welcome and thanks.

Congratulations on your success!

Looks like an excellent deal for this time of year. At check-in i would be friendly and say something to the effect, "I know many of the rooms here are small but if you have anything that may be a bit roomier and make my stay a bit more comfortable i would appreciate it".

You're also near my often recommended Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st St) which has one of the best bagels in the city, makes for a nice, and relatively inexpensive, breakfast among local NYers.

Thank you for sharing your win with the board.
