ollie47 Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 I am new to better bidding. Can someone make a recommendation for PRICELINE - is this too far ahead since it is not until May of next year. Would like to stay around South Kensington - or central london for under $125 per night. Is this doable for that time of year??
Romelle Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 I am new to better bidding. Can someone make a recommendation for priceline - is this too far ahead since it is not until May of next year. Would like to stay around South Kensington - or central london for under $125 per night. Is this doable for that time of year??It is quite a ways out, but I did bid 7 months out several years ago for a London hotel and got it. Actually, I thought I was low-balling and just learning how to bid. Surprised me when the bid went through.... Be careful. It worked fine, but I did have to scramble to cover the 10 day credit card charge a lot earlier than I had planned. I checked the calendar of wins (above on this page) and all that was out there for the first couple weeks in May was a Bangkok win. Figure out which areas you want and start low and slow. Hotwire actually has a 4* Kensington next May for $139, which suggests you should be able to get something for your budget. (Priceline tends to be a little bit lower than Hotwire - usually.)You didn't mention the star level you'd like to get, or your actual dates? I just randomly picked May 4-10.Hotels can add rooms to the Priceline inventory at any time, so even if you aren't successful right away do keep trying. But don't push up too high this early. You can always do that later. I'm just a member, but if you'd like specific bidding advice do come back with actual dates, desired star level and areas and one of the experts will help you further.Nobody knows what the impact of the newest Travel Advisory will be yet. It could bring hotel rates down. Maybe. And then there is currency exchange rate fluctuation. That could send prices in US dollars either way.Romelle
