v0mich01 Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 I'm new to PRICELINE bidding, and have been following this forum for a few months. I'm getting to the point where I'm ready to bid, and trying to figure out what to start at. I really don't have any preferences other than 4* downtown. Any suggestions for where to start bidding would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.
AaronJB Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)What would be your desired max budget per night?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
v0mich01 Posted October 4, 2010 Author Report Posted October 4, 2010 I mean obviously I'd like to get as good of a deal as possible. I'm not really sure what I should expect price wise that time of the year. Ideally i'd like around 70 a night, but I'm not sure if that's realistic. I'm ok with up to 100. I'm just looking for what price I should bid first. Should I go as low as $50 or is that just ridiculous? Like I said, I'm OK with paying $100, but would really like more like $70.Just a random thought, are these bids anonymous? Like do all the hotels see that its me, or do they just get the number, and then after they accept see that its me. Just curious.
AaronJB Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 Once your reservation/bid is accepted, your information is sent to the hotel.$50 for a 4* is unlikely, although it has a slight possibility of being accepted in the Millennium Park/Loop/Grant Park zone. If $50 isn't accepted in the MP/Loop/Grant Park area, I'm guessing it may be successful in the $60-70 area.I'd start at $60 in the River North-NMA area. If that isn't accepted, the likely window where I'd say acceptance is likely is around $65-75.I think the other issue is that, you could likely get a good deal for between $50-75 (depending), but if you are willing to spend $100 and under, HOTWIRE has some listings where you could make an educated guess as to what's showing - while a bit more than PRICELINE, you can get a sense of what hotel it *might* be.On HOTWIRE for these dates, I'm seeing what appears to be the Intercontinental for $99 and the Indigo for $69; please let me know if you are interested in these and I would be happy to point them out on HOTWIRE. While the Indigo is 3.5* (and 3* on Priceline), personally I think it's preferable to a couple of the possible 4*'s in the zone and it's in the very nice Gold Coast neighborhood. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
v0mich01 Posted October 15, 2010 Author Report Posted October 15, 2010 Ok so I've been working on bidding for three days now. I started at 50 in NMA 4*. that was rejected I added Millenium park. That was rejected. I added Hyde Park(Bc it doesn't have any 4*) and upped it to $55. None of those were accepted.so the next day I tried $60 NMA 4*'s. When that we rejected I added MP. That was rejected. I added Hyde Park and upped to $65. That was rejectedToday I did $67 NMA. That was rejected. Added MP. that was rejected. Then added Hyde park and upped to $68, that was rejected. then I decided to try adding Skokie and upped it to $69. and That was the magic number.I have the Palmer House Hilton for $69/night 12/17-12/19. I'm pretty excited about it. Now I just have to figure out how to park outside the city and take the train in...Thanks for you all your help!
