rguerrah Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 Hi, This will be my first time bidding in Priceline for a hotel in ParisI will be traveling on Oct 23~ Oct 30 The Max i want to spend is up to $80.00 per night Is this reasonable for a 3* hotel ?My preference for areas is 1. St. Germain - Latin Quarter - Montparnasse2. Opera Quarter East - Les Halles3. Champs Elysees - Opera Quarter West4. Eiffel Tower - Port De Versailles - MontparnasseWhat would be best way to bid on the PRICELINE?Thanks in advance
thereuare Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding!Just to confirm, you are aware of the differences in star ratings between hotels in Europe vs. those in the US? A 3* in Paris is probably more like a 2.5* (or 2*) hotel here in the United States... is this acceptable for this one week stay? Please confirm and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. rguerrah Posted October 5, 2010 Author Report Posted October 5, 2010 Thanks for the reply. No, I was not aware of the differences in star ratings but I appreciate your clarification. It's good to know and it explains a lot when we look back on our last trip to Italy ! We are interested in a clean, safe, and relatively well located hotel but don’t want to spend top dollar for that. We really don't need to be in “the lap of luxury” because we will be out sightseeing most of the day and returning to the hotel just to grab a few hours of sleep. In your opinion what is the best we can realistically get for $100 a night for a hotel with the above mentioned criteria in Paris ? By the way, do you think that the Europe travel warning issued by the State Department will force hotels to significantly reduce their prices for October ?Thanks !
Romelle Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 The La Defense area is out a bit, but is right on the metro so actually only amounts to about a 15 minute ride and you are right back in the middle of everything. It often seems to yield a lower price than the more central areas. You might look at the hotel reviews and maps for that area, and see if it would work for you. When sight-seeing all over Paris and the greater area, it seems most places will involve a metro ride anyway, no matter where you start. The hotel we got was the Pullman, formerly a Sofitel.RomellePS - under the "F" for France
thereuare Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 I'm not sure how the Europe travel warning issued by the State Department. Obviously if people cancel their trips it might effect hotel prices, but from interviews i saw of travelers on the news most were still going thru with their plans (and apparently it hasn't effect your plans :) ) While it won't likely be enough, i would at least begin by trying for a 3.5*. Do you want to stick with the aforementioned zones in your post above and try up to $100? (or is Romelle's suggestion of the La Defense zone of any interest... nor or perhaps later if your current bids fail?)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. rguerrah Posted October 5, 2010 Author Report Posted October 5, 2010 Thanks for the reply. The only thing I don't like about the La Defense zone is that it seems like a much longer trip from/to the CDG airport. We plan to take the RER B train into the city once we get there. We would like to first try the above mentioned zones and if all fails go for La Defense.By the way, how can you chose 3.5* ? In PRICELINE I only saw options for 2*, 3*, 4*, and 5* hotels.Do you think we might be able to get a better deal through HOTWIRE? We havent' explored that option yet.
chenflora Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 Since you stay in Paris for 1 week, you can also consider furnished appartment, the week rate is about Euro 400~500 for 2 ppl.1. center location2. have your own kitchen/washing machine etc.3. live like a real parisien!try: http://www.parisattitude.com/ or http://www.lodgis.com/
rguerrah Posted October 5, 2010 Author Report Posted October 5, 2010 Thanks for the suggestion but we will be going to Lyon for two days 10/27-10/29 and then returning to Paris for one last day there before returning to the States.

rguerrah Posted October 6, 2010 Author Report Posted October 6, 2010 Thanks for the reply. We plan to stay in Paris from 10/23-10/27 (4 nights) and in Lyon from 10/27-10/29 (2 nights); then return to Paris on 10/29 (1 night) before returning to the States on 10/30.I really appreciate your help on this !
Romelle Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 If you have one of those nasty really early air departures, you might look at an airport hotel for 10/29. Much easier, and they tend to be less expensive. There are the car and luggage issues of course, but worth thinking about.Romelle
rguerrah Posted October 6, 2010 Author Report Posted October 6, 2010 Thanks for the suggestion. Our flight departs for the States at 11am but we will definitely consider your suggestion.
