rhi555 Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 Hi,I am new to bidding on Priceline and wondered if anyone has any tips on how much I should expect to bid for a hotel in NYC from the 11 - 14 December, 2.5 stars plus? I have tried various combinations so far unsuccesfully.ThanksRhi555

So far I have tried all of the central zones (Mid town East, Central Park South, Times Square, Empire state building, Madison square garden, Upper East side, Upper west side, Chelsea, CPS) for 3 star plus. AaronJB Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 This stay falls right on the middle of the part of the month where prices go from the prime holiday period to a quieter, moderately less expensive time period. If you look at HOTWIRE for 12/11-14, prices are pretty high - if you look at 12/12-14 *only*, then you will find far more reasonable prices (including a 3.5* MTE for $123, although if that is the Hilton East, that property is a bit far E in MTE; it also may be the Roosevelt or Doubletree Met). Splitting your stay may be an option. Given the prices on HOTWIRE for 12/12-14, you could then try to get under those prices on PRICELINE. Then it's a matter of trying to find something else convenient for 12/11.What is the 2.5* that you are finding as a potential back-up?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
phw1443 Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 Aaron,If I understood what you said, then Dec 16th-18th would fall in the quieter, moderately less expensive time period for times sq. Is that correct? Thanks,Walter
thereuare Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 phw1443,The rate drop is a general rule of thumb, but there will still be some hotels which are busier then others. While i think you can get an 'ok' deal for these dates, you may not be able to only target the Times Square zone specifically... you can certainly try, and perhaps you'll get lucky, but you would likely be better served by including as many zones as are acceptable. If you'd like help with an upcoming stay please start a NEW TOPIC.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
