Priceline Hotel: 1st time to SF...need advice

Hi all....

Have vacation time coming up (travel dates are 10/19 tuesday - 10/28 thurs) & am tossing between San Francisco or New Orleans for the mere fact I can get a good price on airfare & car rental & would enjoy either destination...BUT I am finding hotels "in city" seem to be pricey in both locations & i dont want to pay to park the car....can anyone suggest zones/areas near SF where we can base out of & access the city but also check out other sights in SF area? Also...I want to stay in a 3.5 (maybe) to 4*(prefer) hotel...hoping to stay in the below 100.00 range if possible

Have you considered not renting a car at all and/or only renting a vehicle on the days that you need it or want to drive outside of the city? For both locations i don't think you'll need a car too much for days you stay in the 'city'.

hi...yes we have considered that option, but I guess as a 1st time visitor to this area we were hoping that maybe we could find somewhere "close" that wouldnt require the pay to park issue....its hard when u are a 1st time visitor...not sure what to expect or hope for...

Allie - have you gotten any SF guide books? A trip to your local library could yield an armful (for free yet), and might give you some answers. I particularly like the Lonely Planet series for its user friendly maps and directions, but there are many other good ones.

There is a reason why most people stay 'downtown' and don't rent a car unless they're plans have them leaving the area some days :)

after much thought...I have decided that since its so close to the trip dates, if we are going to fly cross country to SF, I should research the area much more than I would be able to do with so little plan time...I am sure SF has alot to see & wouldnt want to rush the planning...thanx for the input!! much appreciated!!

We'll be heading to New Orleans for these dates.
