wolffpackoh Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 First off, I would like to say hello to everyone. I have been looking at the forum for some time now and this is my first post.I have been using priceline a few years now, but never in Orlando. My wife and I are looking to get away to Orlando area for 3 nights starting Jan 13 for our 5th year anniversary. We are traveling on a tight budget and are looking for somewhere to stay in the area for about $135 total (after tax).Location isnt too big of a deal for me, just dont want to end up somewhere far out like Lakeland or Davenport.I would like to find the nicest place I can for the money (preferably without large resort fees / parking fees). What are some suggestions and tips that some of you may have?Thank You!
thereuare Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 Your budget will likely allow you ~$37 before taxes and fees which doesn't leave a whole lot of wiggle room. You basically have two options... you could bid on PRICELINE for a 3.5* (and then if rejected 3*) property and receive any hotel at that star rating in the zone you bid OR you could do a HOTWIRE search and see what is offered within your desired star rating and budget. HOTWIRE usually costs a little more than PRICELINE, but it gives you the advantage of 1) knowing a little bit about the quality of the hotel based upon the percentage of HOTWIRE users who recommend the property (as well as the Tripadvisor rating when offered) and 2) take an educated guess as to the property being offered based upon the amenities associated with it.So PRICELINE would likely cost a little less, whereas with HOTWIRE you could 'pick' something that had good reviews... that's the trade-off.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. wolffpackoh Posted September 29, 2010 Author Report Posted September 29, 2010 not having used HOTWIRE before I am not to comfortable with how it works. In all I need to be able to get a hotel and rental car for 3 days for 225. Booking with the airline I was given the option on quality inn plaza on i-drive but not sure if I m wanting that property. I have noticed that users in the past have had good luck with Rosen shingle creek and was thinking about expanding the budget slightly if I am able to get room for 48 per night like a recent member was able to get. In all I guess I would rather go with PRICELINE to properly answer your question. Thanks for the help.

wolffpackoh Posted September 29, 2010 Author Report Posted September 29, 2010 Really any zone, not very picky. Would like a 3.5 or 3 (I know 4 really wouldnt be possible with my price range)
thereuare Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Really any zone, not very pickyLocation isnt too big of a deal for me, just dont want to end up somewhere far out like Lakeland or Davenport.Everyone's idea of "too far out" will be different, so please look at the PRICELINE zone(s) and let us know which ones you are willing to accept. Also, are you willing to pay more for a 3.5* vs. a 3* OR is your goal the least expensive 3* or better for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. wolffpackoh Posted September 29, 2010 Author Report Posted September 29, 2010 Downtown Disney, Lake Buena Vista, Airport (but would not like to stay IN airport), Universal, Seaworld I driveGoal is to get the least expensive 3* or better (unless someone knows of a standout 2.5 star that is a sure deal on PRICELINE)
thereuare Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 Downtown Disney, Lake Buena Vista, Airport (but would not like to stay IN airport), Universal, Seaworld I driveSo in reality you're actually only intersted in three zones:Lake Buena Vista - Downtown Disney Universal Orlando - I-Drive NorthSea World - I-Drive SouthIf you're not willing to accept any 3* hotel (or higher) in the Airport zone then you can't/shouldn't bid that zone.At the 3* level you have TWO re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3* LBV and Universal...Bid $28, if rejected add re-bid zoneBid $30, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* LBV and SeaWorld...Bid $28, if rejected add re-bid zoneBid $30, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* LBV and Universal and SeaWorld...Bid $33, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $35, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $37Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. wolffpackoh Posted October 2, 2010 Author Report Posted October 2, 2010 Hotwire help id 3* celebration hotel h$29 for jan 13 for 3 night
thereuare Posted October 2, 2010 Report Posted October 2, 2010 Did you try the PRICELINE bidding strategy above? For help with the HOTWIRE property please provide the amenities associated with this hotel. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... and your searches too! wolffpackoh Posted October 2, 2010 Author Report Posted October 2, 2010 I did not try the above yet, I did more research and looked at some of the tripadvisor ratings of the 3* hotels in that area and there seems to been a few that I really would not want to be stuck with. I ended up going to HOTWIRE.com and did find a 3* in the celebration area and I was going to see if someone could help me ID this property. For $29 I would like to see if I could ID this property than try and bid on priceline.I am in a pickle already, I did a priceline bid on a rental car for our stay but still have not booked flight and hotel and my wife was not too happy with the idea of booking something already... Well, its a little too late because I know once you bid on priceline there is no getting money back. I want to make sure that we dont get stuck with a hotel with a bad rap. The other idea that I had was to stay in Orlando Airport area for one night, and then go to Daytona / Cocoa Beach area for the other 2 nights. I know that some people have had some success with the Hilton at Daytona Beach for about $40. Anyway... HOTWIRE does no longer offer the hotel in question. So I guess there goes that Idea. Thanks for your help!
cared7 Posted October 2, 2010 Report Posted October 2, 2010 This is at the top of your budget, but www.travelzoo.com had a deal for $39 for the Clarion, a 3 star, and I've seen people say good things about it. I think it might even have breakfast, but I could be thinking of its sister property, which is all suites.
thereuare Posted October 2, 2010 Report Posted October 2, 2010 I did a priceline bid on a rental car for our stay...How about sharing your winning rental with the board in the Car Rental section of the board... maybe your win can help another user :) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
wolffpackoh Posted October 3, 2010 Author Report Posted October 3, 2010 Help ID 3* Orlando Celebration $29Any Idea?
wolffpackoh Posted October 3, 2010 Author Report Posted October 3, 2010 After going back and forth between Priceline and Hotwire, I ended up booking a 3* on Hotwire in the Lake Buena Vista area for $46 per night. I ended up with Country Inn and Suites. Some websites are calling it a 2.5 star, but Tripadvisor it gets a 4 out of 5, so I guess I cant complain. This hotel features the following amenities:Complimentary BreakfastFitness CenterPool(s)Business CenterLaundry FacilitiesHigh-speed Internet AccessAlso from what I can tell there are no parking or resort fees.
