ace Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 I am going to Vegas for the weekend Friday, May 20 and need a room for two nights. In reading many of the posts for wins at the Venetian, I noticed most of the accepted bids were for Sunday through mid-week. I bid and rebid 5* for these two nights starting at $99 up to $124 without acceptance. Any strategic suggestions or guidance welcome. If I can't get the Venetian, the Westin Casuarina would be acceptable. However, my understanding is that on PL it is 3* which is a category shared by some hotels I don't want. Any way to distinguish what I am bidding on when using PL?Thanks, :) First Time Poster.
thereuare Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 Welcome to BetterBidding! The acceptances at the Venetian are not based upon day of the week, but rather price... it just so happens that rates in Vegas are usually substantially cheaper midweek vs. weekend. We have seen midtweek bids rejected at higher prices and weekend bids accepted at lower prices. With the above said, the problem for you is that rates all over town are very expensive this weekend (likely do to a 50K person hardware convention earlier in the week with many choosing to stay for the weekend, in conjunction with an 25K person architect convention during that weekend).Best rates i can find at a 4* hotel average in the $200/nite area, with a lower star rated hotel like the SAHARA available for $95/nite.You may want to book a cancellable back-up at the Sahara mentioned above (or some other hotel that meets your criteria) and see if rates soften a bit as you get closer to your date OR raise you budget and/or lower your expectations.Have you found anything better than what is mentioned above? ace Posted March 28, 2005 Author Report Posted March 28, 2005 Hotwire has a 4* Fremont area (Golden Nugget?) that looks like my best committed option @ $101 per. I will probably bid 4* on Priceline to see if I can get it cheaper. Other than that, Orbitz has the LV Hilton @ $115.
thereuare Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 I was looking at on-strip only... i assume you're willing to stay off-strip then?Let me know and i'll have another look. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
ace Posted December 15, 2005 Author Report Posted December 15, 2005 Took the Golden Nugget off the Easy Click link for $101. Downtown Vegas has changed since my days as a craps dealer back in the early eighties. The downtown casinos and area in general is much nicer than ever. We really enjoyed the convenience of being able to walk to other casinos and restaurants, and the relative lack of crowds, relative to the strip.
