Hi

I'm so glad this forum exscists!! :) (I've never bid on PRICELINE before)

Hubby and I are looking for a hotel in NYC to spend a little weekend "getaway". Since we live in Long Island (we're not tourist) we're looking for a hotel IN NYC but we don't mind if it's a little "out of the way". Also, due to the recent bed bug invasion, we defintley don't want to be in mid-town!!!

I'm thinking either Downtown or UWS would be the better options...is that right? (I'm looking for a 4 star or higher and I'm trying to be around the range of $200 / night...11/5-11/7)

Also, is it too early to start bidding?

Thanks in advance for any help or tips you can offer!!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Based upon current rates i'm guessing that a 4* hotel in either UWS or Downtown will likely cost you more than $200/nite. If your plans are firm i'd begin bidding now as anything under $200 would be a pretty good deal, imo.

Also, if simply looking for a weekend away but no particular plans within Manhattan, you may want to consider crossing both rivers and head to Hoboken where the fairly new W Hoboken is available for $207/nite thru HOTWIRE, gets great reviews, beautiful view of the city, you have access to Manhattan to go out on the town, and Hoboken has its own nightlife as well. Just a thought as it's within your budget and unlike most making a BIG trip to NYC, i'm guessing you're looking for a change of pace weekend rather than necessarily staying directly in Manhattan.

Let us know your thoughts and if you'd like to try for NYC, let us know when you're ready to bid and we'll suggest a strategy for for you to follow.

Thanks for replying and for the suggestions. We have specific plans in NYC, theater tickets, dinner reservations and SPA appointments. We would rather stay in Manhattan, however, we're also willing to consider Hoboken although first I need to find out how much we'll end up paying for tolls to and from NYC if we go with that option.

I guess Manhattan is my first choice and if that fails then Hoboken it is. I definitely would like to try bidding for NYC so your tips and strategies would be greatly appreciated!

If you mean drive each day into Manhattan you wouldn't want to do that... take the PATH train which is an easy commute and just 3 blocks from the W Hotel... or you could walk 2 blocks to the bus stop and go to the Port Authority to get you closer to the Theatre District (assuming that is where your theater plans are located) You could also go to the Bliss Spa at the W :)

Hey, we were in NYC last weekend and got the Empire Hotel (UWS) for $215 by bidding on priceline. And I think you might even be able to get it lower than that - last weekend was a really expensive weekend.

The location was great- 63rd & Broadway.

I noticed that as we got closer to the date, a couple of people got slightly lower prices than we did. So if you're willing to take a chance, I'd wait until closer to the date. Every weekend has different availability, depending on what's going on in the city, but it might be worth a shot. We were flying in, and so had to have something booked, but if we had been driving, I would have been more willing to give that a shot.
