PrisonBull
LGB AirportPick up 10/12/10 @1230Drop off 10/16/10 @1100Trying to rent 2 compact cars for ~$20 or 1 large SUV/Van 6 adult males (plus carry on)We have our own insurance. We are staying at the Crown Plaza Resort (OC-GG) in Anaheim for the first leg.Leaving on the 16th from the Holiday Inn Downtown Long Beach (LGB Airport) (no shuttle to/from the airport which really costs me an extra day of rental!) I explored taking a shuttle (SuperShuttle or PrimeTime) from LGB to the CP Resort hotel - runs about $80 plus tip. Two taxis are way more than that - we'd be better off getting a Limo. The CPR has a shuttle (you pay for it with your resort fee but don't forget to tip!) that goes to DL every 30 minutes until a little after midnight. Our itinerary:10/12 Arrive in LGB/travel to Anaheim CPR hotel/ out for dinner - likely with the free shuttle regardless of rentals10/13 No plans (as of yet) during the day/ Honda Center to watch the Canucks @ Ducks10/14 No plans (as of yet) 10/15 Check out and travel back to LGB Downtown to check in @ Holiday Inn/ Staples Center to watch Canucks @ Kings10/16 Check out and travel to LGB AirportBLUE OVAL (Bad reviews): Total Charges $ 183.96Hotwire: $218.32 totalACE: $181.12Priceline (Avis): $312I've unsuccessfully bid on PL for an economy car up to $20 per day, compact $23 and mid-size $25.I am OK with renting a car on the day I arrive. thereuare
Try extending your rental to 4 days and 4 hours (extending the drop-off time)... this will likely put you into the weekly rate vs. the daily rate, and can often be cheaper then 4 days at the daily rate.As an example, your rental above HOTWIRE shows a total of $218 all-in... change your rental to 10/12 noon --> 10/16 4pm and the rental drops to $186 all-in (same rate as Blue Oval but you're now dealing with one of the major car rental companies and should be reputable. You can take this HOTWIRE rate above or try bidding on PRICELINE for the same time period. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links. Is this more within your price range/budget? PrisonBull
That is more in my budget and I never even thought of extending the rental to make it cheaper! Thank you! Link to comment

PrisonBull
Upon arrival, we asked about getting a second car or a larger vehicle. The Hertz agent immediately offered an upgrade to a 7 passenger minivan for $10 per day more.I hesitated and she offered an 8 passenger Sienna for $9 per day more.I countered with the Sienna @ $8 per day more. Accepted upgrade! Some times it pays to wait until the last minute. :) Link to comment
