NickfromOZ Posted September 7, 2010 Report Posted September 7, 2010 Hey guys, I have only had a quick read through the forums so if my questions have already been answered can you please direct me to the answers.I am travelling to New York, arriving 6th Feb 2011 and leaving 17th Feb 2011. So I am there for 11 days. Most of the posts I have seen on this website have been for stays of 1-5 days, as I am staying 11 will this be an issue? Also as I am only travelling in February, should I wait a little while prior to booking? (for example if I start bidding at $100 now but my bid is rejected, is there a possibility of bidding the same amount a month later and it being accepted?)I also found out after buying my flights that New York fashion week begins on the 11th Feb 2011, will this effect prices much? The regions on the Priceline site I am look at are (in preference order) as follows: Midtown West, Times Square-Theatre District, Central Park South. We are looking at the 4* hotelsI have looked at the calendar of wins in February 2010 and there were a couple of wins: 4* NYC (MTW) Royalton Hotel - $128, 4* NYC (MTW) Hilton New York - $1104* NYC (MTW) Hilton New York - $109Our budget is about $150 + taxes per night (preferably less :) ).Any help will be greatly appreciated.
AaronJB Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)With Fashion Week occurring during part of this period, I would suggest not waiting until the last minute and trying to start bidding now. I would try to see if you could get the same hotel for your entire stay within your budget first; if not, then you could then try to break up your stay into two parts. I think you may be able to get a deal within your budget for the entire stay, but if not, would you be interested in trying to split your stay into two parts? If you place a bid now and it is rejected, and inventory opens up at that level a month or two later and you bid again, your bid would be accepted. Rates do vary by dates and can vary by year - this year has been noticeably more expensive than last year in NYC.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
NickfromOZ Posted September 8, 2010 Author Report Posted September 8, 2010 Hi Aaron,Thanks for your reply, I tried bidding last night and my bids were rejected. I bidded $100 for each of the areas individually (MTW, TS & CPS).I would prefer to have one hotel for the entire trip, but would be willing to split as a last resort.Do you think bidding for one hotel for the entire stay would result in a higher price per night?Do you have any strategies to help me find a winning bid. I tried to do the rebidding thing, but I don't seem to be doing it properly. Is it that you bid in one area, and if there bid is rejected you add another area and increase the price slightly? Thanks for your help
thereuare Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 I think you're budget will probably be ok, but let's cover two things first...1) is there a reason you're not including MTE? This zone usually offers some good value... is there a hotel in this zone you're trying to avoid?2) regarding re-bidding, do you recall the bids you have already made? What is going 'wrong'... are you receiving a duplicate bid message? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. NickfromOZ Posted September 9, 2010 Author Report Posted September 9, 2010 Hi thereuare,1) There was no particular reason I was not using MTE, I was just thinking that from MTW & TS it would be easier to get around. However, after plotting the hotels from this forums Hotel List onto Google maps I am considering MTE as well.2) Yes, I am receiving a duplicate bid message
thereuare Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 In your post immediately above you only mention MTW and TS, but previously you also mentioned CPS, so i'm going to include all of these, as well as MTE, in a bidding strategy. If this is not correct just post back and we'll revise accordingly:At the 4* level in NYC you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTW and TS...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $118, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* CPS and MTE...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $118, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTW and MTE...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $123, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $128, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* CPS and TS...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $123, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $128, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE and TS...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $133, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* CPS and MTW...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $133, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTW and TS and CPS and MTE...Bid $138, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $143, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $148, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. NickfromOZ Posted September 12, 2010 Author Report Posted September 12, 2010 Ok, I tried the rebidding strategy as per your post over the weekend and had no luck.Would it easier getting my bids accepted if I split it into 2 separate bids, say one from 6th Feb - 11th Feb, and then 11th Feb - 17th Feb?Or is a case of the hotels havent released many deals yet and so I may find a place in a month? What are your thoughts?
AaronJB Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 I'd try again up to the same point again in a week. I'd try bidding up to $150 once a week for a few weeks and if that has not been accepted by mid-November, you could either raise your budget slightly (maybe try up to $165) or look at other alternatives (lower star rating or splitting your stay into two parts.) I wouldn't start to try to split your stay at this point.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
NickfromOZ Posted September 30, 2010 Author Report Posted September 30, 2010 4*Times Square - Theatre District area Hotel Ammenities: Suite, Fitness Centre, Restaurant, Business Centre & InternetStay during FebruaryAlso, because it has the Suite ammenity does this mean the room would be a suite or does it just mean the hotel has suites?Let me know if you need anything else to help ID
AaronJB Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 Good evening. :)Is this stay for the same dates as mentioned in your NYC Hotel thread?A "Suite" icon would be an instance of an all-suite property.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
NickfromOZ Posted September 30, 2010 Author Report Posted September 30, 2010 Yes same dates, February 6th to 17th 2011
AaronJB Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 My guess in this case would be the Doubletree Suites Times Square. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
