Tripped Out Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Hello Fellow Better-Bidders,Thanks to everyone's input on this board, I've tried (but failed) to bid on a 4-Star in London for 10/2-10/6. Failed because of my low bids. I've seen some bookings go in the $80-$100 range for 4-Stars primarily in Kensington and Regents Park and I was trying to get a similar deal. Here was my strategy.Westminister 100added Bloomsbury 105 added Mayfair 110 added Chelsea 115added Notting Hill 115 added Regents Park 95 added Kensington 100 added Wembley 105all re-bids failed. So I'm out for the next 24 hours. What do you all suggest my strategy be tomorrow? My dates are quickly approaching so I don't think I can afford not getting a successful bid tomorrow. Please advise! Thanks!!
Patrick36 Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Can't help other than I am having the same issue. We are in London from 10/19 - 10/26. I've been focusing on Mayfair - Soho and then Westminster and am up to $125 with no takers. I've added Bloomsbury - Marble Arch and brought the price down to $120 also with no takers.Good luck with the bidding.
Tripped Out Posted September 29, 2010 Author Report Posted September 29, 2010 Thanks Patrick. Looks like my bid will have to jump to around 120. On the Priceline Calendar on the site it shows bids in those zones (including Westminister) going from 95-110. I guess either the hotels are sold out or price has gone up. Unfortunate for us.
Romelle Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Those prices are based in British pounds, then translated to US dollars at the current rate when you are bidding. As the pound has gotten stronger against the dollar, it will take more dollars to get a winning bid.And of course other theories can also hold, like the hotels filling up or raising the pound rate.Romelle
thereuare Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 Tripped Out,What is your maximum bid for this stay?$120 might be enough, but at $5 more than some of your rejected bids it also might not be... and given you don't have much time, i'd suggest finding the best deal you can thru conventional booking channels, then use that price to determine a maximum bid. Let us now this number and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Patrick36,If you'd like help with your own stay feel free to start a NEW TOPIC.Thanks. Tripped Out Posted September 30, 2010 Author Report Posted September 30, 2010 Given my time constraint I'd say max is $150 but I really think I could get a bid in the $120 range. Do you suggest I start with Kensington and Regents Park this time at $110 and then add the other zones that I bid on previously in increments of $5? This would take me up to $140.

DallasGooner Posted October 1, 2010 Report Posted October 1, 2010 I stayed at that hotel as a PRICELINE win a few years ago and other then small rooms (like the rest of 4*'s in London) I enjoyed it and would stay there again. Very close to the tube. They had free wifi in the lobby then too.
