Priceline Hotel: Advice Needed - NYC 12/14 - 12/19

My girlfriend and I are heading to NYC on the 14th December for 5 nights (checking out on the 19th). It is my first trip to NY so wanting some advice about hotel booking to try and make sure we can get a decent hotel at a good rate.

At the time of year we are coming over, do you think PRICELINE will make us any real savings or do hotels get pretty full at this time of year with other tourists and thus are they unlikely to accept lower bids?

We intend to do the normal tourist type activities including a couple of games at MSG. As such my preferred ares to stay would be Central Park South, Midtown West/East and Times Square/Theatre District. What would be an average 3* or 4* hotel be going for in those areas at that time of year?

A lot of questions I know, but would appreciate any help/guidance anyone can provide.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

The seasonal rush is a 'moving target' each year, and your right on the cusp of when they typically drop, but if/when they do this year is unknown. At the moment a 4* will likely run you about $200/nite... however there is a 3.5* on HOTWIRE with Restaurant, Fitness, Internet, Business icons for $125/nite. My guess is that this is the Roosevelt hotel with a secondary guess of the Hilton Manhattan. Neither are the nicest hotel in NYC, but for $125/nite looks to be a pretty good value at the moment.

Thoughts on this HOTWIRE selection or how you'd like to move forward?

Thank you. When you say a moving target and the 'drop' what do you mean? Are you talking about when potential deals are released or when prices could rise?

The $125 for the Roosevelt looks good value but in your opinion do you think that better deals could be had or should we take the low risk option and get something booked now? We are looking for a base for which to venture out so the location of the Roosevelt is ideal (but less keen on Hilton Manhatton East).

There is generally a time period where the holiday rush and higher prices starts to Fall off and prices start to come down. That time can vary, but this year it looks to me as if that time period is around 12/12 or so. Prices may go up or Fall between now and then, but there is a "realistic" floor where prices are not going to go much further below, even on a slow day. If what appears to be a possible match for the Roosevelt or Hilton Manhattan East on HOTWIRE for $125, you could possibly bid and win one of these properties for around $105-115. However, you could also get a different 3.5* (such as the Millennium UN or another.) Additionally, in terms of a realistic floor example, for a 3.5* MTE for these dates in terms of PRICELINE, under $100 is doubtful, but a bit over $100 seems likely.

However, on the flip side, if traffic picks up/something is going on on these dates/etc, prices could suddenly head higher.

We are looking at booking a central hotel for 5 nights between the 14th and 19th of December. On Hotline there is currently an offer for a 3* hotel for $134 a night in Midtown Central. Do you think this is a good offer ans what hotel could it possibly be?

Thanks for your help.

Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread... if you ultimately use HOTWIRE we'll move the entire thread to that section of the board.

For the property above, what are the amenities HOTWIRE associates with the hotel?
