Hi, I am hoping someone with expertise can help guide me with bidding...

-I am looking for a 3.5 star / 4 star (preferably 4) in NYC.

-2 adults; 4 nights

-dates are not flexible

-Central Park South and Mid-town East would be ideal.

What is a good starting bid? I will pay up to $300 per night, but obviously would rather be in the $200 range.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

To confirm, you first want to bid up to your limit for the MTE or CPS zone before considering other zones? (which may be cheaper)

Did you want to bid up to your limit first for a 4* hotel before lowering your star rating and trying for a 3.5*? A 3.5* in the MTE or CPS would be preferable to a 4* in a different nearby zone? Also, note that at the 3.5* level the CPS contains the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards) and the MTE zone has hotels which are ~15 minute walk to the subway... are both of these conditions acceptable?

Let us know the above and we'll move forward from there.

Thank you for your response.

Yes, I want to bid for CPS or MTE before any other zones. However, a 4* in other zones would be preferable to a 3 1/2* in those zones. I definitely would not want to get The Hudson.

I'd like to avoid Times Square and the financial district, if at all possible. Preferably would want to stay as close to the park as we can.

I know Columbus Day weekend is a busy time, so I'm not too hopeful that I'll be able to stay under the $300 range. I'd go up to $340 for a 4* if need be.

Thanks so much!

So to confirm, your plan of action is to try for a 4* hotel in the MTE or CPS zones up to $300?? If so i'd try as follows:

At the 4* level in NYC you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)

Select 4* MTE...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone3...

Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone4...

Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone5...

Bid $200, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 4* CPS...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone3...

Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone4...

Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone5...

Bid $200, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 4* MTE and CPS...

Bid $210, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $220, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $230, if rejected add re-bid zone3...

Bid $240, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 4* MTE and CPS and re-bid zone4...

Bid $245, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $250, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $255, if rejected add re-bid zone3...

Bid $260, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 4* MTE and CPS and re-bid zone5...

Bid $265, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $270, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $275, if rejected add re-bid zone3...

Bid $280, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 4* MTE and CPS and re-bid zone4 and re-bid zone5...

Bid $285, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $290, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $295, if rejected add re-bid zone3...

Bid $300

I'd start with the above, if that fails we'll then revise to see if you want to try the same up to $350, try other 4* zones up to $300, or lower your star rating.

Any questions feel free to ask.

Thanks for all the help!!

I tried everything you suggested, and then at the last minute changed my last bid to $310 instead of $300. It got accepted at Omni Berkshire in Midtown East!! I'm super excited.

I used your PRICELINE link.

Congrats on your success! :)

Very nice deal for this well-reviewed (and recently renovated) NYC property - especially on expensive/busy dates.
