Will be traveling to NYC - November 11th to November 14th. Would like to book 4* hotel in the range of $800.00 to $1,000.00 (taxes in) for the 3 nights. Am flexible as to area although midtown/downtown preferable. Expect to attend a show or two but have plans for restaurants and bars downtown. Plan on making use of subway so close to subway stop would be best. Queen bed minimum required.

Checked Hotwire today

Downtown/Soho - $282.00 (Amenities are STE/Comp. Breakfast/FC/R/BC/Laundry/HS Internet.

Midtown Central - $294.00 (Amenities are FC/R/BC/HS Internet) - offers upgrade to King Bed for $299.00

Also a room available at the Chandler Hotel for $290.00 near ESB - Queen Bed.

All these fall within budget (give or take a few dollars when you add taxes).

Any idea on the hotels and/or would you recommend them. Do you think I would have better luck $$$ wise using Priceline and if so, could you recommend a bidding strategy?

Finally - we may be travelling with another couple - Hotwire allows you to request 2 rooms - is that option available on Priceline?

Thanks for any information you can provide.

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

Some highlights that I spotted while searching:

GTA Hotels.com:

$276 a night/NY Helmsley

Orbitz:

Renaissance 57 (w/free breakfast offer.) $329.

St Giles the Court (formerly W the Court) $275

Marriott Downtown (w/free breakfast.) $299

Travelocity:

Hotel Mela - on sale for $257.

There are some options in the "Top Secret" section, including a 4* in Manhattan for $201; not sure which hotel it is.

HOTWIRE:

The 4* Downtown would be a possible match for the Embassy Suites; the 4* MTC could be a possible match for several hotels, including the Sofitel, Flaotel, Helmsley Park Lane, and Royalton, as well as the Sheraton and Park Central.

You could likely get a better deal for a 4* via PRICELINE (although that 4* for $201 on Travelocity's "Top Secret" section seems awfully good.), but it depends on what PRICELINE zones you would be interested in staying within.

Please use the site's HOTWIRE, PRICELINE, Travelocity, GTA Hotels.com or Orbitz links to start your purchases and searches.

Thanks for response. I booked the Helmsley through GTA Hotels (from your site). I was able to get rate in Canadian $$$ of $280 per night and it has cancellation until November 7th so I may continue to try PRICELINE. I tried today - variety of neighbourhoods at $250.00 with no luck.
