Hotwire Hotel: Marriott Renaissance O'hare -- need help

I have tried to get a deal on a hotel room for a weekend in Chicago. I prefer to stay downtown since I am touring the area and arriving by train. It only makes sense to stay downtown.

I have tried all the usual sites and I can't find a deal less than $200 per night... some as high as $300/400.

I went to one of the hotel's own website and found a room available for $199. I check priceline... that's funny the room is $199 on priceline.

I must be doing something wrong. Could it be that I am trying to soon to get reservations? I am planning 10-1 thru 10-3

Thanks in advance.

PRICELINE operates two different hotel areas of their website... "retail" where the names and prices are shown, and "bidding" where you offer a price and if a hotel accepts only then do you find out the name of the property.

If you enter 'Chicago' in the search box on the top right corner of this page and include your dates, then press "GO"... have you seen a page like this one yet? (ie- this is the bidding side of PRICELINE)

Let us know and we'll take it from there.

Thanks I will do that. Is there anyway I cam at least see the amnenities before I committ? I would like an indoor pool since it will be in October. So hard to find an indoor pool in the downtown/miracle mile/ loop area. I don't want to commit to a hotel without a pool.

There is no way to ensure a particular amenity via PRICELINE when bidding - and quite a few hotels in Chicago do not have a pool. I would suggest looking at HOTWIRE, where you can look for a listing with a pool icon.

One "unusual" suggestion that I can offer in terms of regular rate would be the Buckingham Athletic Club, which is $198 on Expedia. Coupon code RELAX10 takes $10 off per night. That property is a high-end athletic club, with rooms on the 40th floor of the Chicago Exchange Building. Guests can use the extensive athletic club facilities, and breakfast is offered. Since rooms are on the 40th Floor, views should be quite good from most rooms. This is definitely a more unique hotel experience and may not be for everyone - I'd read the tripadvisor reviews. However, for those who are interested in using the Club features, it could work well. This property is in the business district, and the area is quiet later at night. However, there are public transit options right nearby.

Otherwise, I'd look into what HOTWIRE is offering for these dates.

I am planning trip to Chicago area and have zoned in on the hotel I want, the Marriott Renaissance O'hare. Hotel website show rooms starting at $119 with kids eating for free.

I would like to get cheaper through HOTWIRE. But I am having hard time finding this hotel on HOTWIRE based on amnenities.

Does anyone know the amnenities combination and possibly other distinguishing things like distance or % travelers recommending etc?

Thanks!

Is this for the same dates as the trip discussed in this Priceline Chicago thread?

There is no way to ensure a particular property on HOTWIRE or PRICELINE; with HOTWIRE, only one property shows at each star level in each zone for each set of dates. This particular property may not be showing on HOTWIRE for these dates.

Please confirm the date/s of travel.

Sorry I thought I was posting in HOTWIRE all along.

The date I have settled on is oct 15 -.17. I have seen people post

amenities and people are able to guess based on amenities. There are a couple of hotel in ORD south that have similar amnenities. Just looking for a best guess. Thsbks

The issue is that HOTWIRE will only show one hotel at each star level per zone, and as this hotel isn't won as received as frequently as many of the others in the zone, i suspect that the odds are low that this will be the one 3.5* rated hotel offered for your specific dates. This is why it's usually not a good idea to figure out which hotel you want and then hope that it appears on your HOTWIRE search, but better to do a search and see if what is offered will work for your needs.

If you search HOTWIRE (please use this link) for your dates does anything appear in the Airport ORD South zone which matches previous reports for the Renaissance as listed in the Hotwire Hotel List??

Are you still taking the train in, as noted earlier in the thread? If you are driving, there's a very wide variety of nice hotels/very nice suburbs outside the city. You could also stay in the suburbs instead of out by O'Hare, but if you are not driving, it becomes a bit too difficult to get around a lot of suburban areas.

It has been pretty hard to find Renaissance on any wins. I didn't realize that all hotels will not show up on HOTWIRE as a offering. Thanks at least now I have a better understanding of HOTWIRE works.

We are still taking the train. That is one reason I have zoned in on Renaissance. It is reasonable and steps away from the blue line. It gas indoor pool. Those were my criteria. I have found several hotels that were about a mile away from the el. Too far to walk. A coworker stayed at Renaissance and said the station for el was a few feet away or directly across the street.

Any suggestions to use besides priceline and hot-wire since I can't seem to use them successfully to get room?

What about Expedia or the like. There has to be a way to get discount on this hotel as well as with the more expensive downtown hotels. I don't want to pay the full price if I can get a deal.

How often do people get discount ordering using that price guarantee that I see on some sites.? The one that keep track of prices subsequent user get for rooms on the same date and if someone gets a lower price you will get refund of the difference.

Does this really work or is it all hype?

HOTWIRE and PRICELINE are best for those looking primarily for a discount and who are flexible on specific hotel.

If you are looking to get a specific hotel, neither service is optimal, as there's no way to get a particular hotel on PRICELINE and only one set of hotels shows for a specific set of dates on HOTWIRE.

When searching the ORD area on HOTWIRE for these dates, I see a 4* for $69 in ORD South and a 4* for $73 in ORD North, and the lowest 4* downtown is $129. The Renaissance ORD unfortunately does not look to be appearing, but there are certainly deals on other hotels.

Are you only looking for the Renaissance, or are you interested in any hotel in the ORD area?

Orbitz does have their price guarantee program, where if someone books that hotel for those dates for a cheaper price before your stay, you will get a refund of the difference. The fine print is available on Orbitz.com
