Spill Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 We are looking to get a hotel in Downtown Austin for an extended weekend. Currently looking for 3 nites (09/30-10/03) but would love to get 4 nites (adding 09/29) if we can get the right price. I have tried bids from $85 a nite up to $105 with no success. There is not a football game in town that weekend, and no large conventions that I can find. I see other people getting hotels in that price range, but no such luck for me yet.We would be willing to look at a 3.5* but only really like the Radisson in that star range, which makes that a risky proposition. $115 is our absolute max price range, but would really like to get something lower. I see all this about re-bid zones, but I have only re-bid in the North, Central, Round Rock, and Cedar Park zones as I know they do not have any 4*. What are my other zone re-bid options? Are hotels less likely to accept a Priceline deal that is 3-4 nites rather than 1 or 2?Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

Prince_K Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 Have you checked the TEXAS PRICELINE HOTEL LIST for which have 4*?If you ask for 3 nights or 4 nights, they can't accept your offer if they only have availability for part of your stay. And they won't have any way to indicate this to you directly either on Priceline. Hyatt and Omni are out of rooms for the 9/30-10/3 period if you look thru Orbitz.EDIT by THEREURE: DO NOT use the hotel lists to determine your re-bid zones!!! (see the comments at the top of the priceline hotel list... the only way you to determine your re-bid zone is described here: Priceline Re-Bidding Explained
Spill Posted September 23, 2010 Author Report Posted September 23, 2010 Thanks for the response and the help. I looked at the Omni and Hyatt websites and they show availability, but I do see that Orbitz shows them with none. What's the difference?I did check the Texas Priceline list for the 4* as well as the Priceline website to double check all the areasIs there a way I can target the Radisson at 3.5*?
AaronJB Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 Some travel services may have availability for a particular hotel for a set of dates, and some may not (may have sold out of their inventory for those dates, etc.)There is no way to ensure or increase the odds of getting a particular property.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Spill Posted September 24, 2010 Author Report Posted September 24, 2010 I went up to $117 for a 4* with no luck. I am beginning to wonder if there are none available for the dates we are looking for. Any tips? Thanks!
AaronJB Posted September 24, 2010 Report Posted September 24, 2010 HOTWIRE is showing a 4* for $156, and 4* rates in downtown Austin on Expedia are anywhere from around $189-229 or so. There is likely inventory at the 4* level in this zone, but unfortunately I'm guessing it may be in the $125-135 range.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Spill Posted September 25, 2010 Author Report Posted September 25, 2010 I went up to $125 last nite with no luck again. It's looking like I will need to change to 3.5* or less to keep it in my price range. Thanks for all the help!
thereuare Posted September 25, 2010 Report Posted September 25, 2010 Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? I think you could succeed for a 4* within rates you have already bid... then you could bid the first nite separately (where you may be able to get a 4* for that nite as well... although it would likely be a different property then the hotel you receive for the weekend nites)Let us know how you'd like to proceed. If you don't want to split your bid and your next step would be to try for a 3.5* on PRICELINE, what would be your maximum bid at that star level? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Spill Posted September 26, 2010 Author Report Posted September 26, 2010 I'll try splitting my bid. We dont' mind having to move hotels. I am about to give it a shot, so I will let you know how it comes out.Our only worry with the 3.5* is we don't want to get the Sheraton (which is running a good deal right now). We would probably be OK going up to $90 or 95 for a 3.5*, but would prefer less. The Hampton Inn Downtown which is a 3* is also running a deal around $100 a nite that we are going to book as our back-up.Thanks for all the help!
Spill Posted September 26, 2010 Author Report Posted September 26, 2010 That worked!! We got the Hilton for Friday and Saturday nites for $90 a nite. We tried adding on days to our stay, but it didn't work. We then got the Hyatt for Wednesday and Thursday nites for $83 a nite. We actually don't mind checking out 2 hotels. We are very happy with these prices. The average price is at what we wanted to spend and we got 4 nites so we are extremely happy. Thanks for all your help!
