Sordfish Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 We are looking to get a hotel in downtown Austin for 11/11 - 11/13/10. Is it too early to start bidding on Priceline? Is there a "rule of thumb" of sorts regarding how far out to start bidding? Also, it looks like the University of Texas has a home game that Saturday. Does anyone know from experience if this would cause the hotels prices to go up?Thanks!
thereuare Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! As far as when to bid, see the related "bid early or close to arrival" link in our PRICELINE FAQ.The football game will likely cause a rise in rates, but would likely have more of an effect on the Saturday nite than Friday, although you'll probably see some spillover and higher rates on Friday nite too. What star rating are you seeking and what is your expected budget? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Sordfish Posted September 22, 2010 Author Report Posted September 22, 2010 We are looking to get a 4* hotel and would like to not spend more than $110/night. We have stayed in downtown Austin in the past and have gotten between $80 - $95 for a 4* hotel using Priceline.
thereuare Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 I'm guessing your previous PRICELINE wins at under $100/nite were not when there was a football game or other major even taking place... i think $110 for a 4* hotel will likely fall short, but you can give it a try:At the 4* level you have EIGHT re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Downtown...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
