humev Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 Hi - I need two rooms for two nights, 10/9 - 10/11 '10.Looking at the Priceline quotes in this area, I find 3 1/2 * Affinia Manhattan @ $379Looking through this forum, I see recent winning bids for this hotel in the range of $120.We don't have to be in Chelsea; we can be in any of:ChelseaMSGESBDowntown - SOHOTimes Sq.Hell's KitchenMidtown WestMidtown EastWe're happy with a 3* hotel. The maximum I'm comfortable bidding is $180 per room per night. Can you recommend a bidding strategy? Thanks in advance!

humev Posted September 23, 2010 Author Report Posted September 23, 2010 Well, I worked through this entire set of suggestions, using Coney Island as my re-bid area. Not a single win, all the way up to $180.If I have the energy to try this again, do you think it's worth trying another day? Or should we re-evaluate our criteria? Thanks
AaronJB Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 I don't think you're too far off from being accepted; Travelocity has 4*'s in their "Top Secret" section for these dates for around $240-250, and HOTWIRE has a 4* MTC offering for $245. I think you may be just short of a 3* win, which may require around $190-195. Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
humev Posted September 25, 2010 Author Report Posted September 25, 2010 I bid up to $195 with no luck. At one point I was offered a one-time re-bid at $220. So, that may be the number for a 3* in these areas of Manhattan for these nights. I declined this because I happened to be cycling through areas that weren't my first choices, and at these higher prices, I found I cared more about being closer to where we want to be.In any event, I knew that I could get a one bedroom suite at the Affinia Manhattan for $427 a night that would work for us. Our son can sleep on the pull-out sofa bed in the living room. So, in the end I just went ahead and booked that. Thanks for your help.
