SSeattleI5 Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 Used Better Bidding PRICELINE link. Bid $45, $48, $51, $55 (twice, whoops), then $60 with my last new area to select, and was accepted.Thought this was the property I'd get, so pleased with the price.
AaronJB Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 Congrats on your success. :)Very nice deal for this property! If you're looking for something right there, Barnaby's Pizza is across the street. The pizza there isn't the world's finest, but it's pretty good and the place is an institution - it's probably been there for 30+ years. There are a lot more restaurant options, but very little within walking distance. If you can walk over the expressway (using Dundee), you can get to the back (walk-in) entrance of the Chicago Botanic Garden (walk-ins are free), and that is a really spectacular (and quite large) garden museum. If you're looking for something to do, it's really highly recommended, especially in the Fall. This hotel has a shuttle, it could probably drop you off there instead of having to walk over the expressway on Dundee.Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE link.Enjoy your stay.
SSeattleI5 Posted September 22, 2010 Author Report Posted September 22, 2010 Awesome, thanks for the tips. We'll be needing someplace close for dinner the first night, too.
AaronJB Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 I'm guessing you're probably driving, but if you need a place to walk to, unfortunately Barnaby's (not that it's bad) is about it nearby, aside from the place in the hotel. If you are driving and are looking for a place not far away, I also like Max's, which is about a 5 minute drive due North of the hotel, in the Crossroads Shopping Center. Again, not out of this world, but a nice Deli where you get a lot for the money.More upscale, there is a Ron of Japan and Morton's Steakhouse on Skokie Blvd on the right side of the street on the next block North from the hotel (go North on Skokie past Dundee.) About 10-15 minutes away is Northbrook (Skokie to Dundee, West on Dundee a brief distance to Shermer, then SW on Shermer into downtown Northbrook.) Northbrook has a few other options - Lou Malnati's Pizza, Kamehachi (Japanese), a pair of Italian options (Trattoria Oliverii, Francesca's North) and others, as well (My Pi Pizza). Finally, not far North on Skokie from the hotel is Charlie Beinlich's (a classic, old-school burger joint; http://www.charliebeinlichs.com/) and Prairie Grass (http://www.prairiegrasscafe.com/), which I believe is newer. So, not a lot right there, but quite a few options to the North on Skokie Blvd or to the West. Additionally, Northbrook Court (http://www.northbrookcourt.com/) is nearby, and that is sort of like an indoor version of Michigan Ave. downtown.
SSeattleI5 Posted September 23, 2010 Author Report Posted September 23, 2010 The first night we'll just be taking a cab from the airport (so decent pizza will work), but we're getting a rental the next morning, so we'll have more flexibility.
