Offonhols Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 Hi First time on the forum. Dad used Priceline last year - won Affinia Manhattan (June 209) - not sure how much..Anyway, he has been telling me about this site, so I'm trying to get used to it...reading about it etc..I'm looking for a hotel on the 9th Dec - 14th Dec.....ideally I would prefer to start bidding 4* in MTE/ESB/MTW - if they all fail - try again until I reach my limit.....(I have plenty of weeks to try)...if that fails, move down to 3.5* and win won there. I'm trying to figure out what to start my bidding on...(max budget probably around $250-270)....I have read about someone winning the roosevelt at $110 per night from 13-16dec - this is where I have wanted to stay - Roosevelt...someone else also got it for $130-140 (can't remember exact) per night over NYE. If that is the winning bid for that zone (MTE) ...then what would I start at for a 4* in that area at those times?Any advice/guidance would be appreciated... thank you :)
thereuare Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. AaronJB Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 The issue with these dates unfortunately is that the point where rates start to go from being prime-time holiday shopping/visit season to much calmer. This occurs around the 11th-12th. It's preferable to get something for the entire time and you can definitely try for that - however, if that doesn't work, you can try splitting your stay.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

That sort of thing?Thank you thereuare - greatly appreciated...... When do you suggest is best time to bid? Early - soonish? Or closer to the time? I guess it couldn't hurt bidding cheaply now and then if no luck, obviously wait and bit and bid again - and when push comes to shove, bid higher month or so before?
thereuare Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 Earlier today HOTWIRE had a 4* hotel in the MTC for just $159/nite which is why i provided a strategy above which went up to $160... but that offer is no longer available when i search HOTWIRE for your dates above. As far as when to bid, you have the right idea of lowballing now and gradually increasing your bid as your check-in date approaches. Offonhols Posted September 22, 2010 Author Report Posted September 22, 2010 I don't think I'm too clued up still - when you mean you searched for the dates above - how did you know without bidding? I'm bit confusedThanks for the great advice......and for the link
thereuare Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 I had searched HOTWIRE where the prices are shown... there is no bidding on HOTWIRE.See this I've Never Used Priceline or Hotwire thread which explains the similarities, and differences, between each service. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
