svanwag Posted September 20, 2010 Report Posted September 20, 2010 Hello All,I have been trolling the board trying to find something in NYC with these dates, but nothing? We would like to stay (in order) CPS, TS, ME, MW, just two adults staying, and want to be below 200$/nt (although I would rather be closer to the 150/nt) for a 4*.What advice can we get for this strategy on PRICELINE? What should be our starting point? Should we switch to HOTWIRE?Thanks in advance - we recently discovered this message board and it has already been quite helpful!Scott
AaronJB Posted September 20, 2010 Report Posted September 20, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)The Fall in NYC is the busiest/most expensive period during the year. Unfortunately, $150 is not going to be enough for this period - for a 4*, I think you're looking at $225-275 (and possibly closer to $300 in TS), although $250-275 is more likely. Around $150-200 may be enough for a 3* in these zones, but it would likely push towards the higher end of that range. Let us know your thoughts.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
svanwag Posted September 21, 2010 Author Report Posted September 21, 2010 Then we go with a 3* (OUCH!)Scott
thereuare Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 We would like to stay (in order) CPS, TS, ME, MW...Now that you've changed star levels note the following:MTE - a few hotels in this zone are ~15 minute walk to the subway, is this acceptable?CPS - has the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards) would this be acceptable? Also, at the 3.5* and under the MSG and Chelsea zone(s) come into play... you would want to include either of these in your bidding? How about ESB?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. lobstajohnson Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 I don't know if this helps (new to the board), but I tried up to $265 for 10/13-10/17 in MTW, MTE and TS with no luck at 3.5* and above. I'll have to try again tomorrow (used up all my options for today) and report back.--steve
svanwag Posted September 21, 2010 Author Report Posted September 21, 2010 For CPS, if I read between the lines, the Hudson Hotel would not be acceptable (if that is a 3* or 3.5*, that will not cut it!). MTE, we can live with 15 minute walks to the subway. We would consider MSG, Chelsea - No. ESB - also no.If we are talking TOTAL price with taxes, etc, I could do up to 225$/nt.Really appreciate the support! Thanks,Scott
svanwag Posted September 22, 2010 Author Report Posted September 22, 2010 Maybe mostly just to try something, we attempted tonight. Results:4*, CPS/TS165 - Rejected, Added Rebid Zone170 - Rejected, Added Rebid Zone175 - Rejected, Added Rebid Zone180 - Rejected, Added Rebid Zone185 - Rejected, Added Rebid ZoneSo now maybe we need to reduce our expectations to a 3* hotel in the same CPS, TS area.Any other tips?Scott
thereuare Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 The bidding above was for a 3.5* or a 4* hotel? If you only bid the two zones indicated, what happened to the other zones you were considering? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. svanwag Posted September 22, 2010 Author Report Posted September 22, 2010 Those were 4* and only for the two zones - ideally I want CPS and TS and the other are secondary. So I only tried those two to begin with.Scott
thereuare Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 So now maybe we need to reduce our expectations to a 3* hotel in the same CPS, TS area. You stated above you wouldn't want to receive the Hudson, so you can't bid the CPS at less than 4*.Also, why go from a 4* to a 3* without any 3.5* bidding in between?Have you ever been to NYC? Would you really rather a 3* in the TS zone vs. a 4* in another nearby midtown zone? Please read your messages and click this PRICELINE link before replying. svanwag Posted September 23, 2010 Author Report Posted September 23, 2010 Another day of failed bids:Tonight I tried:4* + 3.5*, CPS/TS/MWE170 - Rejected, Added Rebid Zone175 - Rejected, Added Rebid Zone180 - Rejected, Added Rebid Zone185 - Rejected, Added Rebid Zone190 - Rejected, Added Rebid ZoneI wait till tomorrow... I suppose, I just start where I left off and go from 195 to 215. If I don't get something with that we will take a hard look at MSG and UWE or we will drop down to a 3*. If we go to a 3*, what should we start our bidding at?Thanks,Scott
svanwag Posted September 23, 2010 Author Report Posted September 23, 2010 Oh - and we will accept Hudson Hotel. Now that I look at the Hudson Hotel website, I realize we stayed there in 2001 (week before WTC) with no issues and also booked through priceline. Thanks,Scott
thereuare Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 4* + 3.5*, CPS/TS/MWE170 - Rejected, Added Rebid Zone175 - Rejected, Added Rebid Zone180 - Rejected, Added Rebid Zone185 - Rejected, Added Rebid Zone190 - Rejected, Added Rebid ZoneFew questions regarding your bidding...MWE - is this MTE or MTW?At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones... but at the 3.5* level you only have THREE re-bid zones. Did you add the same re-bid zones at the 3.5* level as you did at the 3.5* level? Please clarify the zones you're willing to accept as well as your maximum bid at the 4* level and 3.5* level and we will suggest a strategy for you to follow. Also, are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* OR is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Ideally we want to be in CPS, MTW, or TMS.If i remember correctly, I first bid the 4* adding rebid zones up to 190, and then when I was out of rebid zones I went back to 3.5* and started at 175, then 185, then 190 - then I couldn't find any more zones that were safe. I really don't want to go over 500$ for the total (4 or 3.5*), so if I reach that, then we are going to have to go down to 3* and start at a lower price point, but in our 3 areas. Thanks,Scott
AaronJB Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 HOTWIRE has a 3.5* for $236 in MTE; the 4*'s that I'm seeing on HOTWIRE (in terms of rate) would unfortunately suggest that PRICELINE rates would require a 4* bid for Midtown that may require more than $225 a night.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
