cds123 Posted September 20, 2010 Report Posted September 20, 2010 Thank you for the advice for Oct 7 and 8, we are so pleased with the rate of $125 for these two nights for the 4* Hyatt Regency. However, the Sat night before the marathon (Oct 9) is causing us grief! We have bid up to $260 in the Loop area and no success. At this point I am thinking that we should be prepared to switch zones or stars. Would the NMA area likely be just as costly? And if we go to 3 1/2 stars in the Loop, any idea what hotels might come up?Thanks again!
AaronJB Posted September 20, 2010 Report Posted September 20, 2010 The thing about Chicago hotels is that some of the 4* properties really do define what one should expect from a nice 4* property. Some of the 4*'s, however, aren't as nice as some of the 3.5*'s, and some of the 3.5*'s are not as nice as some of the 3*'s. Opinions can certainly vary, but you see this to some degree in a lot of major cities. There are a couple of 3* properties in Chicago I'd be more excited about than a couple of the 4*'s.I will say that the 3*' and 3.5*'s in the NMA area are a lot more consistent and mostly are better located than some of the 3.5* and 3* properties in the Loop area. Additionally, there really aren't that many 3*/3.5*'s in the Loop. However, on a night like this, there are not many options. Unfortunately, the few regular rate properties available are $350-400+.However, GTA Hotels.com has the Avenue for $209, which is pretty stunning for this day. I'd recommend that, as that would be a great location and rate. Otherwise, I think other options might push towards the $300 mark. Please use the site's GTA Hotels.com link to start your purchases and searches.
cds123 Posted September 20, 2010 Author Report Posted September 20, 2010 Thank you! I took this wise advice and booked the Avenue through GTA Hotels for $210. Looks like a great place, and very close to the Hyatt, so easy to transfer over. Thanks again!
AaronJB Posted September 20, 2010 Report Posted September 20, 2010 Happy to help! :)The Avenue is formerly the Radisson, then it was renovated a couple of years ago and turned into the boutique Avenue. Recently, the Avenue has come under Crowne Plaza ownership. The Hyatt is on Wacker, just a couple of blocks East of Michigan Ave. From the Hyatt, walk over to Michigan Ave, then it's a very nice 5-10 minute walk North on Michigan Ave. to Huron, and half a block E. on Huron. Great location, and a lot of very nice restaurants nearby. Please let me know if you have any city questions.Enjoy your stay.
