cruisin Lisa Posted March 24, 2005 Report Posted March 24, 2005 We are going to San Diego for short weekend (4/16 -4/17)with kids to visit SeaWorld, etc. at the tailend of our spring vacation. Wanted 2.5 star hotel and was willing to stay in Downtown SD, Coastal, or Mission Valley.Bid $35 for Downtown only- rejectedBid $38 and added Coastal - rejectedBid $40 and added Coronado (because that only has 3 and 4 star hotels) -- rejectedBid $43 and added Miramar (because that only has 1 and 2 stars) -- rejectedBid $46 and added Mission Valley --ACCEPTED !We got upgraded to a 3 star and got the Double tree Hotel in Mission Valley on 7450 Hazard Center Drive, close to a major mall. The hotel has $10 parking/day, 2 pools, 2 restaurants, pet friendly, 11 floors, and free cookie at bedtime.Looked on Website and their lowest price is $149/night for that date. We bid $46 and with taxes, our total is $58.53. Now if we could only get discounted tickets to Seaworld (the least expensive I can find so far is $50/person ( almost the cost of our hotel room. . .sigh).
thereuare Posted March 24, 2005 Report Posted March 24, 2005 Congratulations on your win and thank you for sharing it with the board.A few comments on your bidding...Although it may not have made a difference with this bid, it's usually advisable to start over when you begin to add 'live' zones, such as Mission Valley in this instance. Doing so would have enabled you to try lower bid amounts for this zone, for as the way you bid it this hotel could have been available for less but you didn't give yourself a chance to get it at a lower price. Also, Coronado should not have been used as a re-bid unless you were happy to stay in that region. As you can see, priceline can upgrade your 2.5* to a 3* hotel, so there was a chance of getting a 3* hotel in the Coronado zone with the way you bid.Fortunately all of the above worked out ok for you, but you may want to ask for or confirm a bidding strategy on your next bid in order to emilinate any unncessary risks.Enjoy your stay. Guest aldo Posted March 24, 2005 Report Posted March 24, 2005 Check with your hotel for discounted Sea World tickets. AAA will give you a minimum of $5 off if you buy at the gate.
