nickshep Posted September 17, 2010 Report Posted September 17, 2010 Hello All,Thanks in advance for your help. My wife and I will be spending one night in NYC on 12/3 - 12/4. I've been bidding on PL just about all day and have bid on hotels ranging from 2-4 stars and dollar amounts from 150-220 w/ no success. Am I simply underestimating the Christmas season and rates that will be demanded for one night in NYC? Am I bidding way too far in advance? I've tried the following zones -- Cent. Park South, Chelsea, ESB, MTE, MTW, Time Square, and Upper West Side. If I had a true choice, I'd like to stay in the following zones (in order) Cent Park South, Upper West Side, MTW, Time Square.I have not officially attempted "Marathon Bidding", but feel as if I've placed a ton of bids.Ideally, I'd like to land a nice 3.5-4* hotel and am looking to spend $190-210 before taxes.
AaronJB Posted September 17, 2010 Report Posted September 17, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)The Fall and Winter season in NYC is - with few expectations - unfortunately quite busy and often quite expensive. This extends until around Mid-December. The early portion of December is very expensive with last-minute shopping and people visiting the holiday festivities. With rates over $300 for 3*+ on HOTWIRE, this win will unfortunately take a higher bid - how much depends on star rating and area, but it may be as much as $235-260 for a 3* in Midtown.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
nickshep Posted October 14, 2010 Author Report Posted October 14, 2010 Hi all, I wanted to bump this one back to the top as I have placed multiple bids just about every day for the past month and still no success.I've bid has high as 265 for a 4* and have included the following zones in the bid to no avail... CPS, MTW, MTE, TS, UWS, and Chelsea.Maybe I should list what I am looking for and you guys/gals can help with a better strategy. My wife and I are staying for just one night. Most of our time will be spent outside of the hotel -- eating, shopping, etc. I'm looking for a clean hotel, good central location w/ easy access to subway, surrounded by a some new and popular resteraunts/cafes.I can land the Chelsea Savoy for $210 per night, but am looking for something a little more pizaz/wow factor.
thereuare Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 The first week, and weekend, of December are some of the most expensive in Manhattan during this peak season... is $265 your maximum bid for this stay? At the moment i think it will take a bit more for something with the 'wow' factor that you're seeking. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. nickshep Posted November 14, 2010 Author Report Posted November 14, 2010 Finally landed something...I bid through the PRICELINE link on this site.Empire Hotel (4 stars)$240 for December 3-4thUpper West Side, though the hotel location appears to be convenient located towards the very bottom of CP (almost CPS, but a tad west)I'm not sure if my bidding strategy yesterday was the greatest. I started at 4* 190 for CPS, added MTW and upped the bid to 210, added MTE and increased to 220, then dropped to 3 1/2 stars and increased to 240 and landed Empire Hotel.Seems like a pretty sweet hotel for $240 the first weekend of December. Now all I need is a good site to bid on Rockette tickets. Any ideas?
AaronJB Posted November 14, 2010 Report Posted November 14, 2010 Congrats on your success. :)Excellent deal for this UWS property; Expedia is showing nearly $450 for this night.Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE link.Enjoy your stay.
