Priceline Hotel: Newbie trying to get a 4* in Newyork Manhatten

Hi,

I am very new to bidding and have never bid in Priceline. I am trying to get a good 4* room for three nights from 10/06/10 till 10/09/10 (three nights). I am visiting New york for the first time. Would like to get a clean and quality hotel near the best attractions and shopping. Found through your site that Sheraton hotel 4* was won for the same days for 210$. My budget is below 200$ per night. Won't mind paying extra $10 for a good hotel and location. Need you help and guidance. Thanks in advance.

Actually, the

winning priceline bid you reference are for dates different then your own... your check-in and check-out are both one day earlier then that reported win, and that can make a big difference between success/failure.

Let's assume rates at a given hotel for 10/6-10/10 are as follows (each nite):

$350 - $200 - $200 - $200

A guesting staying the first 3 nites would have an average rate of $250/nite... where as the guest checking-in and checking-out one day later (so the last 3 nites) would have a rate of only $200/nite.

My initial take is that based upon current rates a win at a 4* hotel $210 or less would be a very good deal... do you want to try bidding for a 4* up to $210? If so, which zones are you willing to accept? At the 4* level MTE, MTW, CPS, TS and ESB typically work out well for the average user, but you should take a look at those zones to make sure they're acceptable for your plans.
