I started from the betterbidding PRICELINE link.

I wanted a 4-Star Deluxe in the Union Square West (USW)-Nob Hill area. Hotwire showed $184 for that area. I started my bidding at $110. That failed, so I kept incrementing my bid in $10 increments, each time adding one of the following, which at the time had no 4-Star Deluxe hotels showing:
