Xerothermic Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 Hi everyone,We're planning to stay one night in San Diego on the date of 9/19. We're willing to accept any hotel from 2.5 star to 4 star as long as it's by the beach. If we can see the beach from the hotel room, it will be great! Otherwise, at least we'd like to have walking distance from the hotel to the beach. My price range are around $50-$70 because parking in San Diego's hotel also costs quite a bit of money (around $20/night) and I need to take that into account as well :)Unless someone can recommend free/cheaper parking on the street, as long as it's safe, we will consider it as well. (and if there is free parking, we can bid up to $90 for the hotel :))As far as zones, we're willing to accept any zone that's north of Coronado Beach including Coronado Beach. The reason is we need to hurry back to Arizona the next morning, so we'd like to stay not too far south. If someone can recommend the bidding strategy, we will much appreciate.
thereuare Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please start by reading your messages.Next, you're asking for a lot of things which you can't ensure from a PRICELINE purchase...We're willing to accept any hotel from 2.5 star to 4 star as long as it's by the beach. If we can see the beach from the hotel room, it will be great! Otherwise, at least we'd like to have walking distance from the hotel to the beach.Unless all hotels in the zone are near the beach, you can't ensure that the hotel you receive will be in the part of the zone that is closest to the beach... nor that it is within walking distance. If you use PRICELINE you need to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you select.Unless someone can recommend free/cheaper parking on the street, as long as it's safe, we will consider it as well. (and if there is free parking, we can bid up to $90 for the hotel)There will be no way to know ahead of time of the hotel you will receive will charge for parking, and if so, how much.HOTWIRE may be a better option for you for this stay as you can see if any hotels are offered with the Beachfront or Near Beach icons as this will ensure you the location you're seeking. As well, for most hotels they now list in the "know before you go" section if there is a parking and/or resort fee. HOTWIRE usually costs a little more than PRICELINE, but it seems given your requirements it will give you a better chance at getting a hotel which meets the criteria you're seeking.I'd start with a HOTWIRE search and see if any hotels appear within the geographic region you're seeking, within your desired budget and star rating, and which show the Beachfront or Beach Access icons.Let us know what you find and/or how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Xerothermic Posted September 13, 2010 Author Report Posted September 13, 2010 Hi,Thank you for your reply. I use the HOTWIRE link from the forum to search for the "near beach icon" you mentioned (good feature by the way), but the only hotel within my price range showing 45% of accepting rate. Thus, I think I'll not go with it this time.I understand that I cannot guarantee to have the hotel I want when I use priceline and hotwire, so I will accept the hotel within my price range (which is around low $70). Though, if it's possible, can someone provide a strategy so if I'm lucky I can get the "Holiday Inn on the Bay"?P.S. This is a really friendly forum :)
thereuare Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 Thanks for the compliments on the forum :)Please let us know which zone(s) you're willing to accept (by PRICELINE name) and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Also, are you willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel (ie- bid up to your limit for a 4*, then if rejected up to your limit for a 3.5*, etc, etc) OR are you looking for the least expensive 3* or better for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Xerothermic Posted September 14, 2010 Author Report Posted September 14, 2010 Hi,Thank you for the bidding strategy! I'm using the PRICELINE link from the forum bidding on 4* right now. If I can't get the 4*, I'll try the 3.5* next. Before I do that, you mentioned there are 9 re-bid zone for 3.5* and there are 4 3.5* zones I'm willing to accecpt. However 9(re-bid zones)+4(desired zones)=13 zones and that's still three less than total available zones (16). Are there any zone that provide 3.5* and not in my selections? I'd like to avoid them in case I finally get a hotel in those zone :)Thank you very much!
