Hi all! I am looking for any help in bidding on a hotel via priceline for October 21-25, NYC. When looking at the winning bids on this site, the 'wins' look higher than I want to spend or out of the areas I am looking for. I am really open to MTE, MTW, UES, ESB, TSN, TSS, CPS, but not out of those areas. I want to spend no more than $150 per night for at least a 3*,+ hotel. Can the * ratings in these areas be counted on? Should I wait longer to start bidding? When it says name your own bid and it directs you to compare the going rate of certain hotels, does this mean I should bid half of that? Do you guys that have experience have any other tips for me? Is it possible to get a deal like this during these dates? I am really on a budget but want to do something special for my anniversary. Any help would be graciously and tremendously appreciated!

Thank you!

And also, should I start lower than I am planning to spend now? I have read a lot of the other threads here and can't seem to find the answer I want to read, hear, etc. :)

And one more thing- how do I tell if there is a 4*, 3* etc in the area I am bidding for? If there is not one, do they transfer your bid to the next available or just not accept the bid? Someone please help. I would like to know what I am getting myself into! Thank you in advance!

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

A few notes:

Is your desired budget per night $150 + taxes/fees or $150 "all-in" (including taxes/fees)? What zones are you interested in staying within, as well?

NYC throughout the majority of the Fall and early half of the Winter is expensive (and often very expensive.) Unfortunately, I think $150 is going to be difficult for these dates, and will likely not be enough for a 3* in Midtown - rates for 2.5*+ in Midtown on HOTWIRE are showing at around $250 and higher for these dates.

Thank you for your reply! I am interested in staying in Midtown East or West, Central Park South, Upper East Side, Empire State Building area (last), maybe even Chelsea.. really just somewhere where the subway is convenient to do a lot of sightseeing. When I say 150$, I mean $150 plus taxes and fees, hopefully not to exceed 185-190. I saw a 3* was just booked on the UES for $150 on priceline, (Recent Bid Winners) but it doesn't show the dates. Your help is certainly appreciated!

Please start by reading your messages.

I agree that based upon current prices $150 is going to be a very tough win for these dates and this time of year. We can suggest a strategy for you to give i a try, but before doing so, are you familiar with NYC as we don't see many users bid the UES zone... it's generally not that convenient for the average visitor, and it goes pretty far North... are you sure this is an acceptable zone for you?

Given your budget and difficulty of these dates i would consider the following zones:

CPS (assuming the small rooms at the Hudson Hotel, should you receive it, are acceptable)

MTE (assuming a 15 minute walk to the subway is acceptable)

Chelsea

ESB

MSG

MTW

TS

A win at $150 or better in any of the zones above would be a 'very good deal', imo... some may not be your ideal location, but you could certainly make it work for your needs, and again, a win at $150 is going to be tough for these dates and i would take whatever you can get.

Messages read. I think you are right about the UES. I really don't care as long about the area THAT much other than it being a decent hotel and subway adjacent. Any other suggestions? I am about to look up the Hudson Hotel and see just hoooowww small these rooms are... :)

The Hudson rooms I believe are about 130-160 sq ft.

I have now bid 4 times. UP to 175$ on all central locations MTE, MTW, ESB, CPS, HK, TS, Chelsea and MSG. All bids rejected and now I have gotten a message that says, "Thank you for your patience. We're still looking for a hotel room at your price and should have an answer for you within 15 minutes. Click on the button below to get your answer.". I'm assuming this 'ain't' good news either..

I'll just wait another few days and try again, I guess. And I'll keep using your PRICELINE links.

Several times I have gotten the 'Thank You for your Request' Page after bidding several times in a row. It states to wait 15 minutes, that PL is still trying to negotiate a deal. So far, I haven't gotten a 'win' after waiting.. Does this mean that maybe I am close? Why the 15 minute wait?

Looking to win for Oct 21-25, NYC, Manhattan 3* or up. Apparently my bidding strategy is not all that good. Any advice?

PRICELINE wasn't able to get a response within the usual amount of time, which is the reason for the 15min response (although I don't think it's ever been 15 minutes when I've gotten that, it's usually much less.) Definitely wait until you get the confirmed yes or no from the service.

I think I may have gotten a win.. $180 for 4 nights at 4 points Sheraton. Their website says $395 a night for standard room?? Anyone know anything about this hotel or its proximity to the subway?
